A Further Explanation...
This item is keenly priced and arrived promptly - I have no problems at all with the supplier. I required it in order to try and re-use a very old keyboard as the symbols on my current one were rubbing off. The lead on the old one was rounded but my current PC requires a usb connection. Unfortunately it did not work and it may well be that it had been damaged while languishing at the back of a cupboard. For this reason therefore I do not wish to appear critical of the supplier but, for the sake of £1.34 I do not feel it is worth making a fuss. I do thank them for their concern.

The adapter works as it is supposed to do (passive adapter). Some of the keyboards cannot work on USB (like my old one) so you may need an Active Adapter instead (passive adapters simply reroute the wires while active adapters translate the PS2 signals into USB signals - for old type of keyboards ). The item is OK.

Just a Passive Pin Converter
This adapter does the job as a [passive] pin converter, but there is a huge misunderstanding surrounding it, and it undeservedly gets negative ratings. The job of this mechanical gadget is simply to convert USB pins to PS2 pins. It doesn't mean that any PS2 mouse or keyboard would work in USB mode. The mouse or keyboard with PS2 connector must have the USB functionality (in electronics and firmware) built into it for USB mode to work. This is generally less common for USB to PS2, although it's common to find mouse or keyboard with USB connector that works in PS2 mode (in this case PS2 to USB converter). At any rate, a mouse or keyboard that supports both PS2 and USB should be labelled as such (or the user manual should say so). If this is not indicated, it's almost certain that the mouse or keyboard doesn't support dual protocol and this pin converter cannot do the magic as a passive component.Update: For more [gory] details which may be of interest to some, click on the comments link below; you'll find my reply which outlines interesting historical notes.I am using this pin converter for something completely different - just for the convenience of forwarding the 5V USB supply on to the PS2 port for some connection unrelated to a mouse or keyboard.Sellers should state a clear warning that this pin converter may not work as expected unless a mouse or keyboard supports the dual protocol. For lack of this warning I am knocking off one star in my rating just to make this point - but the poor adapter did nothing wrong.

Functions well
The USB-A male to PS2 female adapter works – connecting an old mouse to a USB only PC. You should note that some older mice won't work even with an adapter. They're just not compatible with newer firmware.
