A must read for all therapists - even specialists - you don't already know this!
This book is a game changer - I really hope it gets well circulated amongst therapists in all specialities (especially those who think they DON'T work with autistic people) and it should be mandatory training material for Clinical Psychology etc. It's so readable yet jam packed with useful information - as a therapist and an autist with special interests in this exact topic I didn't expect to learn anything but I absolutely did pick up quite a few useful gems. Thank goodness for this new generation of constructive, realistic and positive books about autism and for voices like Steph. Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the author on a really excellent book - her voice is fresh, funny and wise. We need an equivalent for education now please ....

Helpful, affirmative and humourous
I'm only half way through so far but I've really enjoyed reading this both from the perspective of being a late diagnosed autistic person and also as a trainee therapist. The author has managed to incorporate her sense of humour into her writing which helps to make it relatable. I thoroughly recommend for any autistic person who is thinking about entering therapy and also for therapists both autistic and neurotypical.

A must read for anyone who is or wants to be a therapist...
I finished this book within 24 hours of picking it up.I really resonated with the author as a late diagnosed ASD person with Alexithymia who is training to become a therapist I have been really struggling which is how I found this book.I loved the book, the humour and writing style makes it an easy read on a difficult subject.I was just finishing an essay for my course and rewrote it and referenced this book as the book is saying what I was trying to say. The gaslighting that goes on by therapists due to them not even considering autism and assuming you are just being resistant is something I have experienced first hand. I have started and sold several very successful businesses and continue to run one but was leaving training thinking I was just awkward for not getting it.The way autism is framed in this book and the way therapy can help or not has been very helpful to me.Highly recommend any therapist read this.

Understanding Therapy and Autism
As being newly diagnosed with ASD I have found this book really useful and enjoyable. Many of the outlined therapeutic mishaps will be instantly recognisable to anyone on the Spectrum who has been through the therapy mill. I was shocked to learn that there is no formal training in Neurodiversity for Therapists and it's no wonder that many of us have found previous practices unhelpful and even harmful. The book is brilliantly well researched and references important work in the field, it's not just a personal account which is often the case. The final section is a must read for any practicing Therapist offering guidance and examples to identify masked Neurodiversity. 6 stars.

Vital reading for all therapists and autistic clients
This book definitely fits my experience as a highly conditioned autistic woman.I've experienced good therapy, bad therapy and seriously harmful therapy. Now, with huge help from Steph Jones, I feel validated and informed. I have a much clearer understanding of what I need from therapy and what I'm looking for in a therapist. My current therapist read Steph's book and she has enthusiastically recommended it to colleagues.
