There’s a sliding adjuster on the front that ranges from thick pile to hard floors... hope that helps :)

Are there any non removable filters in it? eg piece of foam in it ?

Yes, at the top, rinse it and wash in a bag in the machine (40 deg max), dry well and can be used several times.

Does it leave hoover lines?

This i think would depend on your carpet. I have not had a problem. There are two settings depending on which type of surface you are using it on. Personally this hoover was one of my best buys ever

Does anyone know if you can release the pipe from the purple loop so you can use it properly

You can attach the pipe as other users have said. I found easier to use when I unscrewed and removed the purple loop altogether.
