The Zoo"Being a devout environmentalist and lover of mother nature, (not a fan of caged animals), I was hesitant to buy this book, but my granddaughter loves animals, so I read the first bit offered on Amazon and was immediately taken in by Penny & Popo’s upbeat and positive perspective. For a children’s book, the suspense and pace are riveting. Very well-written, the detailed descriptions are vivid, and the ‘voice’ of the animals strangely real. These helpful, whimsical, and smart animals, with fun and catchy names, join in to help solve the eco-mystery- affecting both the zoo and forest animals, while keeping the little girl and dog safe from the villains. Touching upon the spectrum of human emotions with heartfelt detail, children learn that animals also have deep feelings, love their young, and that they too need a clean and healthy environment. The overall respect Penny & Popo have for all things, makes this book an winner. It had us laughing, and we were touched and cheering at the end. We’ll definitely get the next book the author has coming to see what capers these refreshingly new and courageous characters can get into. It takes a GOOD READ to keep my 5-year old grandson completely engaged for longer than a minute or two, but this book had him asking me, "read more, grandpa!" I couldn't believe it. I promised him I'd read it on our 3-hr car trip to the mountains. It starts off like most kids books, but soon had us both caught up in the chase which the girl and her dog go on. It goes at a good pace, you laugh, get a bit teary and for the little ones, there are lots of lessons about what's right & wrong. Julian particularly loved the talking animals. His parents said they'd never seen him so still & quiet for so long, ever! I loved reading it as much as he loved hearing it. By the end we were all cheering for the little hero's as they fled from . . . you'll have to get your own copy and find out! We give it 5 stars because it had ALL of us laughing and cheering and wondering what their next adventure might be. Grandpa Bob.

Great adventures with a positive message. A must read for all children.

I bought this book for my 10-year old granddaughter who sat down and read it straight through. I was so surprised and asked why she read the whole thing at once - she told me she couldn't stop because she just had to find out what was going to happen to Penny & Popo and the zoo animals. She said that even though it had some big words and the story had a lot going on, it was very detailed and she understood everything.She got my interest up so I sat down to read a bit and found myself unable to stop. It's a wonderful story for kids ages about 7-11 and I'm 61 years old, so I guess it's a great read for big kids too! I highly recommend this book. Its story is timeless and has a strong message throughout of what is right and wrong. It's a great mix of action and adventure yet is very heart-warming as Penny & Popo are such lovable characters. The zoo and forest animals that talk are funny, clever and really believable in the way that it's been written.Mary C.

WOW!! What a wonderful book for kids of all ages. I am the lucky mother of 5 children aging from 1 1/2 to 9 and it was a great read for all of us. There are very few books avaliable that will hold the attention of a large age group but this is one that is so well writen that the older kids can easily read it on their own and the younger kids are able to understand and truely enjoy the story. They all ask for me or the other kids (i9 & 7) to read at least a chapter each night before bed. They can't get enought. They love the adventure, the supense, and especially the animals and their names. We have been looking everywhere for a Popo stuffed dog. We want more and are hoping as you will too for Penny and Popo's next adventure to come out soon!!
