I have started using a lip brush to apply it. It gives me more control when I want a precise look. If I am in a rush I do still use the applicator though. I am not one to saturate the entire lip with the color. I use the darker tints towards the innermost lip. Then I dot and dab the lighter colors to the front of the lips. It looks more natural to me. There is a scent but it is neutral. It does not smell at all like chemicals. It does have a taste but if you allow it to dry before your tongue gets to it, it is minimal. But, even if you do taste it the flavor is as most lip products. I will stick with this brand simply because there are so many and I am very satisfied with the colors and price. The longevity is there.
