## Description

Fluffy pictures are stitched on the back and brushed on the front. You will find helpful videos on YouTube. The stitch length is approx. 1/16" and the loops should just cover the image, with no gaps. If you tack down the first and last few stitches by back-tracking ( or stitching directly on top of ) the stitches, it will help to prevent the stitches from unraveling while brushing. Put down painter's masking tape around the image before brushing to protect the fabric from the brush action. Use a "scooping" motion when brushing - the fluff should stand up rather than lay flat. It is important to brush the loops and not the fluff. The art of Bunka Shishu is a Japanese form of punch needle embroidery developed about sixty years ago from the European form of punch needle. The main difference between Bunka and the usual punch needle is that Bunka stitches are worked from the finished side of the picture, so you can see the design developing as you stitch. Bunka embroidery is a bit like a paint by number kit using thread instead of paint.
