However, there were two failures of that volume: 1) it had curious lapses in some difficult passages, particularly where more than one translation was possible; and 2) it tended to give only traditional translations of individual words. I bought the "Parsing Guide" by Han to fill in these gaps and allow a quick verb reference so that I could research Gingrich-Bauer or the TDNT for more in-depth research and more accurate translations. Han provides the very helpful resource of parsing not only tense,mood and participle, but also providing person,number, and declension for each verse of the New Testament. It also provides the verb stem. As one reviewer has already indicated, the book also provides readers with a choice on those tricky passive/middle verbs which can greatly alter the meaning of a text (e..g, Mt 25:40) Although it might also be helpful to include verb meanings as Rienecker/Rogers does (as well as Sakae Kubo's stark format in his "Lexicon"), I find it much better to take the basic verb and research on my own rather than to be lured into a particular meaning. Granted , this book might become a "crutch" as others have pointed out, but I have personally found that for the practical preacher some crutch work is helpful at first or in a pinch, but decreases over time as one gains familiarity. I would recommend this book (even with some errors) as a decent adjunct to Gingrich-Bauer, Blass-Debrunner, and even, Rienecker/Rogers in translating the Greek New Testament. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Helpful Resource *by S***8 on Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2014* If your looking for an inexpensive book that parses every verb in the Greek New Testament, then this is the reference for you. Right now I'm a seminary student, and I found this book helpful for a number of reasons. First, it parses every verb using easily understandable abbreviations (e.g. aor. act. inf. for aorist active infinitive). Second, it follows the biblical text by chapter and verse, so if there is a verb there, then it will appear in the order of the verbs in this book. Third, this book also gives the lexical form for every verb, which is helpful for looking the verb up, and for studying for tests, because most teachers require not only the correct parsing, but also the lexical form.I know that this book appears obsolete because of all the new computer software, but using this tool and some other "old school" book resources in translating and analyzing the Greek New Testament has really helped me earn high marks in Greek; and I feel as though others might miss out if all they are doing is pointing and clicking on verbs on the computer instead of taking time and working through a text.Finally, this book does contain some errors that keep users on their toes, but only about 5% of the time. I would recommend using this as a quick reference to check your work, but also be engaged in the parsing and reference other books to make sure.
