Even as a hobbyist, get this tool and Flux. It makes work so easy and because it is easy my work looks and works better!

Works great. Much better than syringe plungers. Buy two (flux and solder).

It's not perfect, but this thing makes one-handed application much more ergonomic and natural. It adds to the size, so it's not great for the tightest of spaces, but this was a wonderful add-on when I switch from scraping flux from a tub.

I usually use MG-8341 flux, which is reasonably viscous; great flux, but the application can be a bit annoying. This is a great tool; you get a huge amount of leverage and control as compared to using a plunger, and this allows for precision application with zero effort. If something happened to the one I have, I would waste zero time in obtaining a new one.

Having used this squeeze trigger thingy for a year during SMD AND through hole work, I love it. I usually press the release catch and pull plunger back a smidge to prevent flux from oozing out the end. After work I cap it with a protective cap from ESD tweezers to prevent any mess or tube tip damage. This contraption is a permanent fixture on my soldering bench and happily used almost every time I fire up the iron The side trigger aspect allows me precision at a comfortable working and hand angle. I don't know how it compares to similarly designed models from other manufacturers, but I would definitely recommend this item if wanting to level up from paste to tube flux.
