I have a cavalier who is elderly and runs hot and this mat really helps her cool off.

I have bought this cooling mat pretty consistently over the past few years. I like this brand because it’s one of the few mats I’ve found that allow you to use water to fill it instead of the mats filled with non-toxic gels. While I’m sure the other dog cooling pads on the market are safe, I just don’t know what the gels are made of and if my dog will be laying on the mat for long periods of time or what could happen if she licks up anything that leaks out of in case of an accidental tear. Being able to manually fill the mats with water allow you to control the “squishiness” of the surface and you can add or remove water to enhance the comfort of the surface. I generally have to replace these mats once a year because typically mine start to drip ever so slightly along the corners and sides. This could be because I’ve unintentionally filled the mat too much and caused slits to form along the sides or I’ve simply moved it around too much around the house. In any case, I think this cooling mat is practical and comfy for 12-lb Fiona. I usually buy 2 medium sized mats and 1 large to scatter around the house when it gets extra hot in So. Cal during the summer. Good, affordable option to keep your pet comfy during those higher temperature months.

I ordered this for my 11 mo. mini-goldendoodle last month in anticipation of a hot summer. PROs: the pad held up well to her normal-get-comfy scratching, offered some extra coolness and squish, would be easy to take on a trip to the beach, and is (blessedly) non-toxic. CONs: the pad offers limited coolness and I'm not sure how well it would stay cool outside for extended periods of time.The other major con is that it's unfortunately not 100% puppy proof. I didn't expect to have to supervise my dog's use of this product so I wanted to give a heads up to others out there whose pups like to solve "puzzles" with their mouths. I also don't think this is necessarily a fault of the design as much as the determination of my dog, but wanted to flag it for other shoppers who are parents of enthusiastic chewers. Although we placed the pad with the plug side down, it was easy to feel from the other side and our pup found this nub to be an exciting textural challenge. When scratching at the plug failed, evidently she turned to her teeth. I'm SO GLAD that the inner texture is not toxic, because she definitely ate the corner of the vinyl-like cover and exposed the inner cooling layer and water. I think I'll try to patch with duct tape to see us through an upcoming trip and closely supervise her use of it, but we'll ditch the mat after that and not repurchase.For more context, my pup doesn't tend to destroy plush beds or other items with this nylon texture so I'm honestly a bit puzzled. In general we're a fan of K&H so it's a bummer this didn't work for us.

I put the water in it. What a waste of money. It doesn't get cold or staying cold.

Our girl is 14 now. She's always hated the warm months. Spent lots of time on the cold tile floor cooling off after being outside. Her joints started to be really bad on her so we started giving her medication. That worked for a year.We started using this about 6 weeks ago. She loves it unconditionally. After a week we moved it from the fake hardwood to the kitchen where the tile is, just in case it leaked. She used to HAVE to be in the same room as us. Now she sleeps on this cooling bed in the kitchen without us in there.Tip: she never liked stuffed beds so I filled this bed a few gallons at a time, with filtered water to reduce sediments because I'm a chemistry dork, until it was fairly full. She adjusted very well that way.***Update: It lasted a few months. Water started to come out at the seam in several parts. Didn't have it overfilled or anything. Very much recommend putting something under the pad if you have it on interlocking hardwood.

My dogs love them, I bought 2, they are nice and big, easy to use and they REALLY WORK, both pads so far have stayed cool! I did put a light weight cover over the pad (red dog paws) my lil shih tzu's love them!

I bought 2, one for each of my dogs. They are very good quality and were well packaged. One dog took to it after a few minutes. The other one is thinking about it. But they are a godsend in this hot weather. And when they aren't laying on it, I rest my feet on it and it does help cool me off.

This is my dog’s favourite thing. When we first got him three months ago, he would cry all the time because he was hot, so I picked one up at the pet store for him and he loved it. As soon as I took it out for him at bed time, he would curl up on it and fall right to sleep.It started seeping water after two months of daily use which was so tragic. He still used it for a while because he didn’t mind slowly getting soaking wet but eventually the seeping became actual leaking. The pet store had no more! So we ordered from Amazon.This picture is literally four minutes after I took the new one out of the box and put water in it. He wasn’t even tired, he was just so glad to have it back (and a much bigger one this time, too).I wish it was more durable but he’s a big puppy and he loved it literally to pieces, so I can’t fault the product for that. If I have to replace this thing every two months for the rest of his life, that’s just the price I’m willing to pay. He’s so happy.I like that it has water in it instead of chemicals or gel, in case he gets chewy. I also like that I don’t need to freeze it but it cools him better than the frozen ones I tried before reordering this one. It says you don’t need to refill or change the water but he’s always so happy when I refill it with especially cold water.Definitely worth the money. Can not recommend enough.
