Review: Effectively re-waterproofed a goretex jacket - I have a waterproof warm Goretex jacket I use for walking the dog in winter, and it had got filthy with mud as they do! The jacket was machine washable, so after a lot of advice from Auntie Google I machine-washed it and another waterproof jacket with a regular detergent to get them clean, then hand-rinsed them to get all the detergent out. I then put them through the machine twice with the Nikwax TX Direct (doubling up to compensate for using detergent to get it clean) and let them drip-dry. With some scepticism I tested waterproof-ness (is that a word?) using the 'shower' setting on the garden hose. Both jackets are as waterproof as they were when new! So I'm delighted and will definitely use again.

In the machine I first washed the jacket using a liquid soap solution (the sort used for tents), short spin, then added the Nikwax and washed on 30C. Worked a treat! Wore it for an hour in heavy rain walking the dogs and was bone dry. It’s expensive for the amount you get but it does work.
