Ecowitt weather station
Arrived in good time. Easy to assemble. The console could do to be a little larger but it does the job. Excellent performance, well worth the money! The app is good too. I like the app.

Great product and superb customer service
The product is superb in terms of features and quality. It is very easy to set up and seems to be extremely accurate. The couple of problems I have had were resolved rapidly by the very responsive customer support team, including sending me a new temperature sensor.

A most engaging gadget
I’ve had half a dozen weather stations over the years and this is by far the best one, mainly because it doesn’t function on the usual 433Mhz frequency, which always causes issues with ‘signal migration’. Absolutely packed with features, the instructions are confusing in parts to say the least and it’s taken a week to work out how to get it to communicate with my phone using the Ecowitt app. Very pleased with it and would highly recommend it.

Lots of information
I love it, it gives tons of info, fairly easy to set up, installation is a bit tricky as you require a short section of 2inch pipe with outside diameter of 2 inches. Then drill thru the pipe lower down for a couple of galvanized Lag bolts so that they can be secured into a barge board.

Great Amateur Weather Station
Awesome peice of equipment and easy to set up, I have somehow now turned into an amateur weather man. The best bit about this is tracking how much rain I get while I work away, I have it hooked up to the soil moisture sensors which provide real time (minute updates) of how wet my grass is. I use this data to inform my watering schedule. As someone who spends a lot on water this is going to save me a heap of money.

Easy to set up
It’s easy to set up and you can set up email alerts for a different conditions when they’re meet. For instance, I want a heater cable to turn on in a drain when the temperature gets around -0 with rain or freezing rain when I get those warnings by email I can then activate the drain heater. I could probably Make the drain heater come on automatically switch off again if I spent the time setting it up using smart home devices. Overall, I’m very happy with it.

I love my new Ecowitt HP2561 weather station.
I love my new Ecowitt HP2561 weather station. It was very quick and easy to set up. I found the manual to be comprehensive and clearly written. The color console display is really bright and clear and easy to read. Everything works according to my expectations. For less technical users you can just view your weather on the color display unit and leave it at that. As for myself,.. I went on to connect it to my wifi/internet and now have it transmitting live to the minute weather data to three different targets as follows,..#1 My data transmits locally on wifi to my personal home automation server running "Home Assistant". This allows great flexibility if I ever want to set up automatons based on weather conditions. For instance it could easily automate things like "Turn on the irrigation if it's hot and sunny and has not rained for 24 hours", or “remind me to cover the tomatoes if it approaches freezing at night”. Note that this interface is not dependent on the internet at all, nor on any subscription based services. My home automation system remains completely autonomous and local using this arrangement with Ecowitt and 'home assistant'.#2 My data transmits to a web server provided by ecowitt, where they collect and process your weather stations data and format it into a very nice web page with history graphs etc that you can view on the internet on phones/tablets/pcs and share with friends. One particularly nice thing about this web display is that it's not cluttered with any advertising. It shows weather data and only weather data!. Also very nice about this (and as it should be!), there is no subscription required to use this! Once you buy this ecowitt you get to use every feature it has. They don't try to rope you into buying a subscription to enable deliberately disabled features like so many companies are doing these days. Good on you Ecowitt!#3 Just for fun, I also set it to share my weather data with the 'weather underground'. They format it into a webpage that you can share with friends too. The weather underground website is very cluttered with ads though. The page Ecowitt provides is really much nicer.Setting up these data links was really easy using the installation/user manual downloaded from Ecowitt . Perhaps extra easy for me, (being very tech oriented), but I think even for a layman, the product design and manuals are very well done, and it’s really about as easy and clear to set up as it possibly could be for anyone. Ecowitt has done this right.Overall I am very pleased with this product so far. It will be interesting to see if it can tolerate our harsh Canadian winters.

Works well, good value, but not for the technically challenged
The setup of this thing is not at all straight forward.Firstly you need to understand the basic concept of this all the communications work. The station itself is not WiFi enabled. It communicates like a cordless phone to the gateway and the gateway connects to the internet. The gateway has no screen and no web interface, so you use an iPhone app to configure it.The app is really clunky and it takes a lot of playing around to work out how it works. When you add a device it works like this:1. The app records your current WiFi SSID (which is often a 5g radio that doesn't work with the gateway).2. It tells you to put the gateway into connect mode, but won't allow you to move on until the app determines you have switched from the app to something else (presumably your phone settings).3. Once connected to the gateway if pre-enters the recorded SSID, which hopefully was a 2.4G WiFi radio.4. You enter the WiFi password (you can also enter settings like WeatherUnderground on the same screen, which is cumbersome because these are often long complex strings).5. The App reports that the connection worked, but then does nothing else.6. As the Ecowitt cloud service uses the MACID of the device you need to logon to that portal and register the MACID (rather than using an ID/password pair like all the other services).7. The app shows no weather data unless you have also setup WeatherUnderground (the app doesn't use the Ecowitt data for some crazy reason).8. When you try and find your own device in the App it shows nothing at first because evidently it is doing a scan of your network which takes some time, but because there is no indication a search is happening you give up before the gateway is discovered. If for some insane reason you waited for 30 seconds it will appear. If you email support they get back to you, but you don't get an email to confirm your request so that is also confusing. There is also no web portal for support.Basically, this whole setup is what you'd expect from a product designed by a bunch of technical people who know what they are doing but have nothing but contempt for the average user.It could all be fixed with a rewrite of the app, a Wiki and support using Zendesk.Once you know how this all works you will be very happy with it. Perhaps most people who buy these things are technical people who have the patience to work it all out, but if that isn't you, don't expect this thing to be plug and play like your average Apple accessory.
