Inappropriate for younger children
The story is not as good as the original and I was surprised that during the interlude they introduce "Mish and her wife." This is not relevant to the story at all and I did not see the need to have to grapple with those issues a fantasy book about rabbits other than to introduce an agenda. Very disappointing.

What a fabulous book series
Kieran Larwood is a great author who makes children want to read. My daughter and son were both swept away by the adventures of Podkin and Uki. He has had the same impact on me and my brother as Bilbo did when we were children. Its fantasy world is very well designed, its characters endearing, and I heard my children express their emotions while reading it and then tell me about it with great enthusiasm. That's what you want from a good book. What's more, he's a talented illustrator and the combination of his words and images makes for a powerful read.
