G-Technology 2TB G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive, Silver - 0G06072-1

So far, so good...it's in line to replace '(G)old Faithful' as my new drive for my music production stuff. I have a gold Touro 1GB drive and wanted to replace that with the same drive, but Toshiba had other plans. This is the best 2GB 7200rpm drive I've looked at, especially for the price. Functionality will always trump aesthetics. I'm OK with that when it comes to this. UPDATE (8 Aug 2020): A few things...1) This is NOT a 7200rpm drive. Not sure how I wasn't aware of this at the time of purchase, but that certainly does help to explain why this drive has stopped working. 2) Two years wasn't too bad as far as time served for storing and accessing music files and projects, but knowing this is under LIMITED warranty does help. 3) I ignored the experts saying SSD's are the way to go when shopping for a replacement for the original 1TB/7200rpm drive (which STILL WORKS to this day) and went with this...live and learn, yo. If this drive is available and you're dead set on getting this, please know and understand that you're doing so at your own risk. Numerous projects and files are likely unrecoverable (maybe ones last saved around spring of 2019 should be good to go, but after that is a crapshoot), and I wasn't aware of a cloud save option through their website. Save yourself the trouble if you're into music production at any level at all and look into SSDs. A 5400rpm drive is just asking for heartache.

I am using this back up drive on an iMac desktop computer and it replaces a much older G drive external unit that was beginning to have issues. This new drive is completely quiet and very small. It fits perfectly on the foot pad of my monitor and is completely out of the way. I use this unit for my Time Machine back-ups and, unlike the older unit which was much bulkier and noisy, I don’t even know it’s there. Set up was a breeze - just plugged it in and it was ready to go. I really like the fact that it is noiseless because the distracting noise of the thrashing hard drive on the older unit was the primary reason I replaced it. It would be better if it had some type of hard drive activity indicator light, but other than that it is performing as expected.

Good quality, easy to use with both types of connection. Works especially good with MacBook 17'' and 18'' which only has type-C port. Also has a fair pricing. Very recommended. Only suggestion was to add the label "microUSB 3.0 to USB type-C" on the package to make it clearer. I was just about to return it before I actually opened the box.

Delivered quickly and right on time to replace a previous backup drive for my Mac. Both a USB 3.0 and USB C were provided, so it was an easy hookup. I didn’t even need to reformat the drive. Popped it into Time Machine and several hours later had my first new backup, with more on the way. Nice small footprint, looks pretty solid, and great for travel. Looking forward to years of service. This is my second G-drive, I have had an older version running backup on another Mac for several years with no hiccups, so I expect more of the same.

This is my favorite drive brand. I hate that they are focusing on larger TB drives. They 1TB and 2TB are perfect for me.

Got this for my wife’s Mac Pro after using the 1-TB model on my iMac for three years. Mine works great, and I see no reason to believe the new drive won’t be equally as good. Great value for the money.

Size and function of this device was great to start. I have a mac so it took some adjustments to make it compatible, however I purchased this specific brand due to the positive reviews with Macs. Unfortunately, due to connectivity issues stemming directly from the cord not being completely attached to the device, it stopped working within about 6 months of purchase. Now I have an $85 paperweight that is holding my backup data hostage, since data cannot be recovered either. This device isn't worth the money- at all. I'll be looking at external hard drives that do not have removable cords from now on. Lesson learned.

Albeit I had to format it to be accessible to the PC Laptop world but that was simple with the directions given with the product. I can' t believe 2TB of data can be stored in this small device!! So quiet and it replaced my 2TB Fathom Drive. Glad to get rid of the cables it required (the Fathom Drive).

Si lo compras para .Mac es perfecto, pero si tiene Windows seguramente no te aparecerá como unidad de almacenamiento. Deberás formarlo desde el administrador de dispositivos. Mejor busca en internet cómo hacerlo. Una vez lo consigas hacer, funciona de maravilla. Es muy rápido y fácil de usar.

I've been kicking the crap out of this thing for two years and it's held up really well with being hauled around in my backpack and used for video rendering and photo storage. I really recommend this for a student and any hobbyist needing extra storage for media development.

Lasted about 6 months before it developed an irreparable mechanical fault. This was a backup and we lost about 500gb of data..... lucky it was only a backup. Nice compact design, best looking brick we’ve ever seen.
