How to Use and Upgrade to GM Gen III LS-Series Powertrain Control Systems

I bought this book to get an idea of what it might take to convert a SBC to a later model computer. I love the idea of taking an older engine and upgrading it to use modern technology. The author seems extremely knowledgeable and by chance was the same individual that responded to my inquiries on the EFI connection website. This book was the tipping point for me to decide to convert my 1985 Tuned port injected Camaro to a modern computer. While it will still be Tuned Port injection, it should be able to process signals and adjust many times faster. The case studies are fun and thought invoking as well. It just goes to prove the author stands by their book and the processes described therein.

This book contains exactly the info I need to plan the use of a modern GM PCM for my older vehicle. It's not just another "LS" engine swap manual; it's about the electronics that came on these powertrains and how they can be adapted to work properly on other GM engines -OR- on your LS swap. Each chapter covers a different feature or function of the PCM, and the different ways you might address that function in your application. The book also features plenty of photos of the factory parts you might need, complete with part numbers, original applications, and side-by-side comparisons so you can easily identify them on a donor vehicle. (Like an "interchange" manual for LS electronics covering PCM's, all the various sensors, coils, IAC valves, etc). Toward the end of the book there are a few sample projects of vehicles that have been successfully retrofit to use "LS" series PCM's.Great info, very thorough, it's worth every penny!

Not exactly what I wanted, thought it would cover tuning the ECM. It does go in-depth with part compatibility. Great for doing an LS swap to ensure everything works. Will hold onto it because I’m planning an LS swap soon, but was looking more for guidance on tuning the ECM at the moment.

This is NOT a how to book, there is very little useful information, is very outdated. I cannot recommend this book to performance people - you're better off using google search or ls tech. Sorry... do not buy.

I gain a lot of knowledge on how the LS engine works and also how to add some of the LS features to older Chevy engines for better performance.

Didn't care for the book but it's not the sellers fault. Received on time & in good shape.

An invaluable wealth of knowledge and experience, and even if it represents older methods at times, a quick google will put you back on track.

Lot of information about the GM LS EFI system and the various parts and their compatibility. Good explanation about the LS ECM's and their various strengths and weaknesses. He gives part numbers and talks about the various sensors and other devices in the LS engine in good detail and explains their differences.But, if you are looking for diagrams or actual how to connect something you won't find it here.A large portion of book is spent promoting the authors services and parts needed to convert LT-1 or MEFI systems to use the more advanced LS engine controls. Retrofitting cam sensors and crankshaft reluctors to engines not designed for them is interesting but of little value to most readers.In summary I cannot recommend this book to those who are looking to install or swap LS engines using factory harnesses. The author rejects the idea and instead suggests you build your own from scratch. If you have advanced knowledge it is an option, but expensive once you buy connectors and wire. This book will not be of much use to those who are not interested in upgrading their old TPI and LT-1 engines to LS controls.
