No Scart available on this unit. Infact you cannot connect it via AV as there are also no connections

is it possible to set the recorder timer to record straight onto a dvd disc

Why would you want to record onto a dvd Disc??? When there is a 500 GB HDD Included on this unit.

Is it true that this machine will not record films to DVD from hard drive

I deliberately recorded a film to HDD last night, and it has copied this to DVD with no problem. This is the only film I've done this with, and it would take more use to be sure it will do this on all films recorded to HDD.

Does this have any scart output to connect an external cable tv box?

No. The only output from this player is HDMI cable and TV aerial.
