Overall Great for the price!! : Overall review on this drive
The Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB (Recertified) Enterprise NAS HDD offers high-capacity storage and reliability, especially suited for NAS setups and enterprise environments where durability is essential. Here’s a breakdown of its performance, durability, and overall value as a recertified drive: Storage Capacity & Performance With an impressive 18TB of storage, this drive is perfect for handling large data volumes, making it ideal for users who need high-capacity storage in RAID or NAS configurations. The drive operates at 7,200 RPM and has a 256MB cache, ensuring smooth performance and quick data access speeds for backups, streaming, and large file transfers. It handles workloads up to 300TB per year, which is well-suited for heavy-duty use in small to medium businesses or creative setups. Recertified Quality & Value As a recertified product, this IronWolf Pro comes at a more affordable price point than a brand-new unit. Seagate’s recertification process gives a level of assurance, but potential buyers should still consider the balance of cost savings against longevity expectations. While recertified drives often meet quality standards, there is an element of risk in terms of lifespan. Fortunately, the warranty (typically around one year) provides some peace of mind. Reliability & NAS Optimization The IronWolf Pro series is known for its durability and NAS-optimized firmware, making it resilient in multi-bay environments where continuous operation is required. This drive supports Seagate’s AgileArray firmware, designed specifically for NAS use, providing stable performance, RAID optimization, and vibration tolerance in multi-drive setups. However, as a recertified drive, it may be slightly more susceptible to wear over time than a new drive, but for most NAS applications, it should hold up well if used within recommended parameters. Noise & Heat Management In terms of noise, the IronWolf Pro is relatively quiet, especially given its enterprise-grade capabilities. It does generate some heat, which is expected for a drive of this size and speed, so adequate ventilation in your NAS setup is recommended. For home office use, the sound levels are manageable, and in a server environment, they would likely go unnoticed. Pros: Massive 18TB storage capacity, perfect for NAS and RAID setups 7,200 RPM and 256MB cache provide fast data access and transfer speeds Optimized for NAS with AgileArray firmware and vibration tolerance Affordable pricing for recertified enterprise-grade storage High endurance for continuous operation (300TB/year workload rating) Cons: Limited warranty compared to new drives (usually around one year) Some risk of reduced lifespan as a recertified unit Generates some heat, so good NAS ventilation is recommended Verdict: The Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB (Recertified) Enterprise NAS HDD is a solid choice for those looking to maximize storage capacity at a lower cost. It performs well in NAS environments, thanks to NAS-optimized firmware and robust performance, while its recertified status makes it more affordable for budget-conscious users. While there’s a minor risk in longevity compared to a new drive, the IronWolf Pro’s durability and high capacity make it an excellent solution for both business and personal NAS needs. If you need enterprise-grade storage without breaking the bank, this recertified drive offers strong value and performance.

great refurbished 18tb drive! Had 0 hours on it!
Looks like I was very lucky here. After seeing some reviews of bad drives, etc. I was concerned. I got my drive in 1 day, was shipped from a local warehouse here in the Indianapolis area. Put drive in my Synology 5 disk array. Opened up details after installing and it showed 0 hours used. So, at least in this case, looks like I got a drive that was never used but was sent back to seller for a reason not related to repairs. Rebuilt my 40TB raid array with no issues. Ran full SMART test. No errors at all. Running very quiet and running at similar temperatures to my other 4 drives in system. Very happy with drive, will buy others when I need to upgrade one of my 8tb drives in system.

Still Fantastic SEE 2 YEAR UPDATE: 17000 hours uptime and STILL LOVING THEM
Shipped fast, works great! 1 YEAR UPDATE: I have been running 2 of these non stop in my DS223J Nas for about a year and absolutely love them. I wish i had 36tb of SSD or NVME but WTH with these baddies I am NEVER lacking for space. I have almost 9k hours on each one so far. I got the refurbished versions but i have had 0 issues and have clean sectors and health all the time. Very surprised with how much space you get for the price. 2 YEAR UPDATE: 2 years later these things are still running strong CRAZY how expensive they are now. I got 2 of them for $189 each and now they are like $500+!!!!!! What has happened to the world. Ok i'm done using my amazon review to complain about the market.

Defective drive.
This drive had fewer than 10,000 power-on hours (9,593) and was operated in a properly cooled NAS enclosure at ~31 °C, well within safe operating conditions. Despite that, the SMART diagnostics show catastrophic failure indicators: 7,809 reallocated sectors 4,003 current pending sectors 4,003 offline uncorrectable sectors 11,107 reported uncorrectable errors 19,547 ATA errors logged Last 9 SMART self-tests failed with read element errors Drive details: Model: ST18000NT001-3NF101 Serial: ZVTGLRM8 Firmware: EN01 Power-On Hours: 9,593 This is not normal wear for a NAS drive rated for enterprise workloads. A drive showing this level of media failure at under 10k hours strongly suggests it was not properly tested before being sold as “recertified.” The failure has forced my RAID array into degraded mode, leaving my data temporarily without redundancy. If you're considering buying recertified drives for a NAS, be aware of the risk. At minimum, run a full SMART and surface test immediately after receiving the drive. Unfortunately, mine failed well after the return window, leaving me stuck with a defective unit. I would not purchase a recertified drive from this seller again.

Works well
I was cautious that this was a returned/Re-Checked unit. After reading online reviews for this model, I ordered it and on arrival, Tested it with CrystalDiskInfo (CDI). This showed the drive had been started once and had run for four hours, The basic CDI data for the drive was identical to a photo of a new 'test review' drive for this model.* I now have 32 starts and 441 hours of use. CrystalDiskInfo helped reassure me on this buy. I am Very happy with this drive. More than 50% cheaper on Amazon than buying it new and In NZ. Will I buy this again? Yes! * photo source and Online review search>> Review: Seagate Ironwolf Pro 18TB SATA3 Hard Drive (ST18000NE000) Worthy. R Edit-Update- Jan 2025: Have 2366 hours up on first unit (going well -no problems) 2035 hrs on second unit (same), And Number three unit is on the way*. Still very happy. (*...replacing older drives- Oldest drive currently installed has 19492 hrs on it> Samsung SSD 860EVO 500Gb) BTW-Crystal Disk Info is the tool to have-Gave me a headups up on a 17127 hrs, 6 Tb Toshiba that's dodgy/ on the way out. That third unit is the replacement. Still less than 1/2 the current brand new price here (-NZ) too. Thanks Amazon!!

Solid Performer
i got 5, 18TB Ironwolf Pro NAS refurb drives (Model ST18000NT001 2023 model) for the NAS and so far they run great! tested all 5 and initially got uptime hours of 5,6,12,16 and 26 hours. so barely used units. they all run good, tested with no errors on short and long S.M.A.R.T. tests and no unusual audible noises. there is the normal boot-up clicking initially and you can hear them but some people make these things seem like your living next to an airport and they arent that loud. if you run a fan in the room you wont hear them. they do however run kind of hot. i got temp warnings while creating a raid pool in unraid and they were pushing 125 degrees. so i stuck a fan infront of them and they are at 99 degrees. the system booted right up and saw each drive. didnt have to make any motherboard configuratiuons. all in all a good hard drive so far. will update if anything else happens.

Great for what I paid for it.
Bought this so I could have a pair that I intend to use for a NAS. I hope I can find another refurbished later at the same price, but seems all hard drive prices have gone crazy lately.

Failing slowly with bad sectors after 1 year of use. But seller took care of me.
Failing slowly with bad sectors after 1 year of use. I reached out to the seller and they took care of me quickly on this. Unfortunately because it is a refurbished unit, I could not go through Seagate on this.
