Very good for kitchen knives

The heart of a sharpening system. Not only used for initial sharpening of the tool, but also for dressing the stones used after this.

This doesn’t compare to the cheap Chinese version. It’s just great. Perfectly flat, generous size, consistent abrasive surface that doesn’t come off or wear away like the cheap ones, good heavy weight. It comes with a non-slip mat, but I would have preferred a permanent rubber base as I leave it on the bench ready to use. 1000 grit and 300 grit are good choices, just needs a leather strop for a complete solution. Nice one Trend!

Does exactly what it should - and last for ever. Only buying another one to save me flipping it over to access the fine grit on the back.

I am tempted to give it four stars but I think that it is not quite as good value as the Sharpal 325/1200 162N set. The Trend is a nice, compact, package of diamond stone, non-slip mat and tough fabric storage case. Quality is pretty good: the stone is flat but there does appear to be visible cross contamination of 300 grit onto the 1000 grit side. For knife sharpening, I think that the stone really needs to be raised off the work surface so a stone holder would be a good accessory for this purpose, or just buy the Sharpal 325/1200 162N set with case for the same price. For chisel and plane blade sharpening then the non-slip pad and compact dimensions for storage make the Trend a very good package.

It's wide and great for sharpening plane blades. There is no notable high spot and provide decent finish.

When ordering this sharpening tool, don't forget to order the lapping liquid from Trend also. I haven't been able to use mine yet while waiting for the liquid to arrive. Using water with it may cause surface rust, and other lubricants may not be suitable. Since it is not inexpensive, best to stick with the recommended lubricant.

With this and a sharpening guide, I finally got may smoothing plane iron back to flat and nice and sharp. I got the 3” wide one so my widest blade could be run straight up and down with extra room. much nicer experience than the thin whetstone I was using . This thing is solid. I also got their special blue liquid, it helps. Much more pleasant to plane wood and not have to fight clogs every few strokes. Beyond that.. the shaving are great!
