Something you should have in your first aid box.
The Surebounty Potassium Iodide 65MG, a dietary supplement that claims to protect your thyroid from radiation exposure. Is this product worth buying, or is it just another snake oil? Let's find out. First of all, what is potassium iodide and why do you need it? Potassium iodide, or KI, is a salt of iodine that can be used to prevent or treat iodine deficiency. Iodine is an essential element for the production of thyroid hormones, which regulate your metabolism, growth, and development. If you don't get enough iodine from your diet, you may develop goiter, hypothyroidism, or cretinism. But that's not the only reason why you might want to take potassium iodide. In the event of a nuclear accident or attack, radioactive iodine can be released into the air and contaminate your food and water. If you inhale or ingest radioactive iodine, it can accumulate in your thyroid gland and cause thyroid cancer or other diseases. To prevent this, you can take potassium iodide before or soon after exposure to block the uptake of radioactive iodine by your thyroid. So how does the Surebounty Potassium Iodide 65MG compare to other brands on the market? Well, according to the product description, it features 65 mg of potassium iodide per tablet, which is the recommended dose for adults and adolescents by the World Health Organization. It also claims to have a long shelf life of 9 years, which is good for emergency preparedness. The product is made in the USA in a GMP facility and is free of allergens and artificial ingredients. The product comes in a white plastic bottle with a blue label that has the brand name, logo, and some information about the product. The bottle contains 120 tablets, which is enough for 4 months supply for one person or 2 weeks supply for 3-5 people. The tablets are white and round with no markings or coating. They are easy to swallow with water and have no noticeable taste or smell. I took one tablet every day for a week as a test and did not experience any side effects or adverse reactions. However, this does not mean that the product is safe for everyone. Potassium iodide can cause allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, rash, fever, or thyroid problems in some people. You should consult your doctor before taking this product if you have any medical conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should also not take this product for more than 10 days unless directed by a doctor. The product costs $17.99 on Amazon.com, which is about $0.15 per tablet. This is a reasonable price compared to other brands that charge $0.25 to $0.50 per tablet. However, you should also consider that this product is not a cure-all for radiation exposure. It only protects your thyroid from radioactive iodine, not from other types of radiation or contaminants. You should also follow other safety measures such as staying indoors, covering your skin, and avoiding contaminated food and water. So what's my verdict on the Surebounty Potassium Iodide 65MG? Well, I think it's a decent product that delivers what it promises: a reliable source of potassium iodide that can protect your thyroid from radioactive iodine in case of a nuclear emergency. It has a good dosage, shelf life, quality, and price. However, it's not a magic pill that can shield you from all kinds of radiation or health risks. You should only use it as directed by official guidance and under medical supervision.

Easy to swallow, no strange taste!
Size is small and easy to seollow with a little bit of water. Opening the container/ bottle it has no strange smell at all. Keep them in my special case box. Like the price compared to many other brands. Also great the long expiration date so don't need to worry about that too much.

Better safe than sorry.
A couple of weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a relative, and he asked me what I thought about fossil fuels. As the conversation went, the subject of Atomic energy came up, along with its risks and benefits. We talked about the possibility of a radiation leak at a power plant and the chances of some kind of nuclear explosion, whether intentional or accidental. He mentioned that one of his sons-in-law had purchased Potassium Iodide (KI) tablets to protect himself, his wife, and their daughters. I'd never really thought about it, but it made me think that I should have a supply of them too. It is highly unlikely that we'll ever need them, but in the event we do, I will feel very good that I made that decision. As in many things, I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

what happens when you really need these?
I'd like to say first and foremost that I have not experienced any kind of radiological event yet, so I haven't been able to test them. The bottle looks solid and the label looks professional. I haven't opened them since I bought them to have, forget about, and hopefully never need. The truth behind KI for emergency use is that the window where it will help you is very small. IF I were in some kind of event and managed to find the bottle in time, and was in the zone where I was exposed to enough radiation to harm my thyroid but not the rest of me, and I managed to survive the immediate local devastation, and the probable lack of power, leading to a prolonged lack of food or potable water, and the possibility of a scratch being terminal due to lack of medical care, I would be really happy that I had these. BUT having become a hardened survivor of the first order effects of the disaster, the eventuality of humanity turning on one another, bullets and bottlecaps becoming the defacto currency, monster trucks and old hot rods marauding the now desert like area, the roving bands of mutants, zombies, deadites, and creatures that our pre-apocalypse minds can’t even comprehend would all be realities that I would need to face on a daily basis. They would cause every moment to have the potential for catastrophe. Vampires, who have come out of the shadows due to the nuclear winter blocking the sun, will be hunting me for me and my KI infused blood. They’ll crave it since it adds an umami flavor to their meals. As I flee from settlement to settlement, trading my bullets and bottlecaps for basic supplies, and post apocalypse inventions that bend the laws of physics… I pause for a moment of introspection... As I look down at my tattered clothes and makeshift armor made from old tires… as I look at the broken and destitute people around me, any of who could be after the bounty on my head for a crime that I did not commit… as i look up at the gaudy tower that the creator of this settlement lives in… and as i look back down to my wrist watch frozen in time at the moment of the blast... I will think back to the before time, marveling at the simplicity of life back then, and wonder what would have happened if I never bought my bottle of KI pills. 5 stars for helping me survive the beginning of the apocalypse 1 star for getting me into the apocalypse. Averaged to 3 stars.
