Q: is this tight and secure on a waist band? will the clip eventually lose its tightness through everyday use ? thanks

It is tight and secure, I don't see it losing that tightness. I attempted to use it on my waistband on workpants that don't have pockets so I could keep my work keys on me. My problem was that it was extremely uncomfortable against my skin. The edges are almost sharp.:(

Q: Are these comfy on sweatpants?

They fit on sweatpants if the rope on the wasteband isn't tremendously thick. I love these key clips!

Q: What size belt is suitable to fit through this? I am seeing opposing views on this?

My belt is about 1 and a quarter inch wide. Works pretty good on that size and smaller.
