MAGMAReplacement Piezo Igniter with Wire, Electrode and Screw for Marine Kettle 2 Gas and Gourmet Series Grills

These igniters are very well made and will work for 2-3 seasons of heavy use before needing replacement. The only down side is installation.On my Magma Catalina Grill the small screw and nut are very difficult to install. The nut actually has to be held by finger in a very awkward location that is very hard to reach. I dropped the nut inside the structure of the grill and wound up drilling a special new hole in the grill body and solved the installation that way.My Magma Catalina is about 14 years old and the design has likely been improved since my version was made. The igniter itself however works beautifully and having a new striker button is a great bonus. The striker button is a piezo-electric device that generates a short high voltage pulse that arcs across the igniter tip and lights the burner.

I’ve had my Magma Kettle 2 for many years—it’s a great little BBQ. But when its lighter stopped working this past September, I discovered how hard it is to light without it, whether with matches or a separate lighter. So I wanted to replace its lighter. It came very quickly—but without instructions, and my Kettle’s instructions had gotten wet so that they were unreadable. I was able to figure it out, but it is a chore and a half to replace the lighter. That’s the reason for the 3 star rating.Two pluses: although it’s difficult to install, it fits perfectly, and it works. There have been many changes in the details of the Kettle 2 over the years since I bought mine, but none of those changes have affected the fit. Secondly, when I later contacted Magma to ask if instructions for my particular older model were still available, they immediately emailed a pdf of them. I was able to confirm that my installation without them was correct.

This is the only solution to replace a burned electrode wire and broken ceramic in a Magma BBQ. Seemed like overkill to have to purchase the spark generator in order to get the ceramic electrode and wire. The package contained two types of electrodes (no doubt for the different models) and the spark generator. The spark generator and electrode for my 'kettle' style BBQ fit properly and work well. Sure wish they used stainless steel for the mounting tab on the electrode because this is what rusted and failed on the old one and eventually caused the wire to fail and the ceramic to crack.

Easy to install

After spending over two hours installing the electrode I finally installed the piezoelectric button and it didn’t work. I would suggest the this manufacturer has no QA or QC. Basically useless and a waste of time.
