Haven't had mine long, but seems well built.

Can this cook brown rice?

Yes! It has a setting for specifically for brown rice. This is a GREAT rice-cooker. It has a nice heavy-duty non-stick pot as compared the many rice cookers I have bought in the past. I stuck with Aroma because I was always happy with the rice and they are MUCH more affordable than the Cuckoo. I am very happy with it so far. If you google the model, you can find a PDF of the manual to see all of it's capabilities. That's what I did.
