Penn Fierce II and Fierce III Live Liner Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combos (All Models & Sizes)

I have owned Penn Reels before and they are of superior quality it has never let me down from the lakes to the rivers and even the ocean surfs. I have never used or owned a Penn Reel rod before, but it looks to be well built. The box that the rod and reel combo came in was DESTROYED it was opened split down the middle. The single strip of tape down the center that was supposed to hold the box closed did not do its job and was completely opened. Great product but disgusting packaging, Amazon must rethink their packaging technique since it was sold by Amazon.com Services, Inc. regardless of the missing handle I'm going to keep it until I spool it up to see if the other complaints about the reel spooling high are valid. I will be leaving an update on this product once I can test it since I do have a Penn Reel Fierce 6000LL on my other rod and that I can easily transfer the handle for testing purposes.

This is my fourth Penn fierce combo I have purchased. I have 3 6000 live liner combos and an 8000 standard all in the 7 foot rod length. I mainly use these on my boat for striper and blue fishing. These combos are well made, cast well, reel smoothly, and have stood up to what I’ve thrown at them.The live liner is a great feature to have if you’re running live bait like Pogie or mackerel. Lets the fish swim naturally until it gets taken then flip the switch for the fight on your normal drag setting. The rods have been bent over on larger fish 90 plus degrees and have handled it well on fish between of 20-40 lbs. Pair the reel with a decent lb test braid and you have a great fishing setup.

I bought the 4000LL combo because I wanted to try a Live Liner reel and the price was very affordable. The pole is nothing special but I really like the reel. First time I’ve used a Live Liner reel and it works better than I had hoped for. I’ve caught several Striped bass with the reel. I took the reel off the pole and put it on a much better Penn rod. Love the reel. The rod is nothing special. Well worth the money I paid for this combo. If I see another for a similar price I’ll add another Live Liner to my arsenal.

I bought this Penn combo set 3 years ago, after about a dozen uses 2 of the guide liners came out. Since the set was over a year old I used epoxy and re-installed the 2 liners and reinforced all of the others. I didn't bother to contact the seller due to the age. Fast forward 2 years, I was fishing today and the next to largest guide broke. I do not abuse my fishing equipment and I would not blame the manufacturer if I broke it. I did send the seller an email about the problems this time. I just wanted them to know about it. On the plus side the Penn reel is working great, no problems so I will buy a better rod and continue to fish. If the seller responds to my email I will add to this review.
