Q: did anyone purchase for a 5 year old?? I just didnt know if it was too small or would only be good for one year after?

We’ve used it with 8 year olds. But reality is that 5/6 is probably the range limit for the older kids.

Q: Is it all weather proof, or does it need to be painted?

I’m not sure it is weather proof or not but we painted with favorite colors and we live in Seattle area where it rains more than half of the year. Still looks perfect!
