Best Statler Brothers compilation currently available
The Statler Brothers didn’t have much success in UK except for Flowers On The Wall but were extremely popular in USA. They were a regular part of the Johnny Cash TV and touring show along with Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters. They were prolific recording artists and really good Country Music story tellers. The back catalogue of their recordings has steadily declined over the years but this double album contains 50 tracks and gives an excellent selection of their work.Many of the tracks can be found on You Tube many being concert recordings and some promotional videos. Take a look and you may find yourself wanting this album. I have found it goes down extremely well with country music fans who have not come across the Statler Brothers before. They are very easy on the ear and the stories in song of their childhood have a nostalgic value for anyone of a certain age even though their lyrics are American in flavour. Strongly recommended.

ONE OF THE GREATEST VOCAL GROUPS
Don Reid, brother Harold, Phil Basley and Lew DeWitt, who left the group in 1982 and passed away in 1990 and was replaced by Jimmy Fortune made up this fabulous band who reigned at the top for more than 30 years. My sincere thanks to the late Johnny Cash for picking them out of obscurity. 49 of the 50 tracks featured on this 2 CD collection all attained chart success, the exception being "We Got Paid By Cash", which was, rather surprisingly, only a B-side. A fine tribute.Their songs are nostalgic, amusing, poignant and uplifting. The harmonies were extraordinary, usually with Don taking the lead. While not fully recognised in the UK, except for "Flowers On The Wall", they were and are still appreciated by those fans of the "Country Music Genre", of which I am proud to be one. If I tried to review each track individually, you would soon get bored with the comments, probably all the same, namely, good song, well sung and every word audible.I own around 50 Statler Brothers albums and feel that a collection of just 50 tracks hardly does them justice, maybe another 9 volumes might just do the trick.If you have never heard of the Statler Brothers, buy this and I assure you will not be disappointed. It is quite possible that you will become addicted like me!

Country harmonies at it's best .
You may like myself bought Flowers on the Wall back in 1966 , another crossover from the country charts . Again try and find follow up's . As it always happen's recording contracts run out and the company do renew and the group to drift out of popularity . These guy's stayed in the lime-light by working with Johnny Cash's "package show" after he discovered them ,and a recording contract comes via MCA .To save taking up a lot of space here , if you care to check up "Facts and figures" you will find these "Guys" were hot property in the country charts,rarely out of the country charts 70/80's , a few of those were No1's , yet again the other songs made BILLBOARD TOP 20 C/W Charts. I must admit I lost touch of their repertoire , this is a collection I have not regretted buying ,just to see what I have missed over the years Most of their songs they wrote . Most noted song ? There association with Johnny Cash , a song called WE GOT PAID BY CASH . {Amazon purchase}
