They block a lot of sound on their own. family members talking in the background are gone. The Bad: With the ANC on the sound feels a lot more hollow, with no Lows.... I would be able to deal with this but there doesn't seem to be any benefit that I was expecting. I was hoping that screaming children, loud tv's noisy coffee shops would be significantly reduced and that hasn't happen yet. Overall: Good sound but the ANC was not what I remember experiencing with Bose many years ago.
