She says light colored can be not as good and removes. Maybe this helps....maybe not. **Q: Have the hulls been removed from these groats?** A: Yes the hulls removed and there roasted, very few impurities , very tasty , if you are looking for buckwheat hulls to refill your pillow or bolster , someone else sells just the hulls for that. If you want buckwheat for sprouting , these are roasted and won't sprout.
