The doorbell requires a 18-24v transformer** A: the friedland door bell works on 8 volt ac . I hope this helps. **Q: Does this bell ring continuously if you hold the bell push? I don't want a ding-dong effect.** A: Yes. The bell rings continuously when button pressed. Note that dome is not quite centre mounted so turning it alters clsrity of ring to suit personal taste **Q: is the Byron 1200 wired wall mounted brass doorbell waterproof?** A: It is highly unlikely that this part of the doorbell is waterproof since it is the 'ringing part' and normally inside the building. The 'press button' part (I think I bought mine from Wickes) that is normally positioned near the outside of a door is moderately moisture proof, but any electrical part needs protecting from the rain. Only industrial, and expensive, specially made electrical gear is really waterproof. Encasing it in a polythene bag, with bag upside down might help. **Q: Does this work with a 12v transformer?** A: Maybe. Easy to install. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just what we wanted. *by M***E on 18 July 2019* We needed a simple bell to replace an old two tone doorbell that had lost one tone. It "Bonged" but didn't "Bing" despite careful cleaning and lubricating as per the instructions inside. I did have to craft a piece of wood to mount the bell on simply to cover the hole in several layers of old wallpaper where the old chime box had been papered around! Otherwise it was a very simple job to fit and connect the existing wires from both front and back door bell push wires. It works perfectly from the existing 12v AC transformer hard wired into the circuit.
