The bars that go across have a hard rubber piece that you have to wedge into the supports -- not an easy thing to do and I broke two, which worked out okay since I needed to skip a row to make room for shoes that were taller. The space for the shoes is a bit low -- sneakers okay, boots not. It's also a bit shallow, size 7 womens fine but men's 10+ not so much.
