The book is worth reading but for those with some knowledge of Chinese history will occasionally chuckle at his interpretation. He discusses the rise of China in a clear, matter of fact way, highlighting its successes and lifting 400-500 million people out of poverty in the past few decades. His discussion of new challenges, e.g. middle income trap, one-party rule, demographics, youth unemployment, lower GDP, the political role of the younger generation post-1980, and China’s role in the world is much rosier than many would hope for, but it’s worth understanding and thinking about carefully.
