Why add $30 for branded PS packaging?

Yea that’s what I’m trying to figure out too. There’s the same sn850, also includes a heatsink, just with an orange led instead of blue and no ps5 logo, for about 25-30$ less right on Amazon too.

Is it possible to play directly from the wd black solid state drive in the m2 expansion slot?

On PS5, you can store the entire game, not just save data, to the WD Black SSD. The game(s) will play from and launch off of the m2. The Sony OS which controls the PS5 will stay on its internal drive, so you won't get speed increases on the OS. But it will load games faster if you move them to the WD Black. Not sure if that answers your question.
