Solid game
Liked it very much! Similar to TMNT shredder’s revenge. Good beat’em up to have, try it out! Or wait till on sale if on the fence about it.

Fair beat em up
It’s an ok game. It’s not nearly as hard as everyone says it is. Once you learn the moves, the tag to your other player and use your game tokens to purchase the fighter upgrades as the game progresses, it’s actually a fairly easy game. I wish it had more levels instead of just 4 long levels and another short level after those. The 4 levels can get repetitive after a while. You can use tokens to buy more characters, but I would rather have more levels. It’s not as good as Streets of Rage 4 or TMNT Shredder’s Revenge. The replay-ability is just not as strong as those games. It is a fun little pick up for under $30.

3.75 out of 5 Rating, It's good, but so much could be improved
I was able to get this for under fifteen dollars, so it was worth it. First, not a fan of the art style, but I'm a huge fan of Double Dragon since the first game came out in arcades, then the NES games, and the SNES game, then DD Neon. The art style is similar to that of Scott Pilgrim, or River City Girls. I absolutely love River City Ransom (NES), and so I didn't mind the art style for DDG, but it just isn't amazing or something I want to tell people about. If the beat-em up gameplay for Streets of Rage 4 is an A, and Turtles Shredder's Revenge is a A-, this Double Dragon Gaiden is a B-. It feels slow, can't pull off combos easily or smoothly, and the attacks just aren't satisfying like they are in SOR4 or TMNT:SR. I finished DDG twice already solo and it's still not amazing. I wanted to replay SoR4 and TMNT:SR multiple times. This DDG game, after two times, I don't really feel like playing it a third time. I will try out online play with some friends later on but I don't think it will make it any better. You go through 4 areas, but the length of the areas are decreased or increased in length based on the order you choose the stages, and the difficulty of the boss also rises of the stage chosen later. There needs to be a new mode where I can go through each area fully, all areas, and also choose the difficulty of the boss to see their variations. And arcade mode where I choose the difficulty first would be nice. Some of the stages are really annoying, with the falling boulders, or the spikes. Get rid of all these gimmicky obstacles. It ruins the gameplay, and makes the game less fun and more annoying. Best order for the bosses so you don't have to deal with the worst stages is Okada, Anubis, Duke, Willy. This way you avoid the falling boulders and the annoyingly difficult Anubis boss last. And also a scanlines option would be nice. Even TMNT:SR was missing scanlines. The pixel art is nice, but it looks better with scanlines. Really, for these side scroll beat-em ups all depend on how the fighting gameplay is, and this one feels just slightly better than average. The fight system needs a lot of improvement. I love playing the old Double Dragon games, and even the fight system in DD Neon is fun. But this DDG fight system leaves a lot to be desired. I've unlocked 4 more characters, Marion, Ranzou, Abobo, Chin, and it's just still ok. They provided some nice refreshment in the fighting system for a short while, but still the game needs work.

Bimmy & Jimmy in a new adventure
Only have around 90 minutes into this so far but is enjoyable, long time fan of these beat ‘em up style titles across many franchises. This has a grind style progression for characters but is welcome addition to not burn through in a few sittings.
