I got it so I have extra sun protection on the back of my neck when outdoors and have the option of covering the face as well. The brim is quite wide, so it gives more shade in the front than most hats. That being said, the brim is almost too wide! It's fine while you're outside and not near things, but if you find yourself leaning in to something, say you forget you have the hat on and lean down to look in your fridge, you'll bonk the brim of the hat. I have used it with the front flap on and off and either way is comfortable. There is an under the chin string tie as well, so you can make sure the hat stays secure, which is definitely necessary when it's windy. There is also a pull at the back of the hat that can be used to tighten it a bit, although I can't tell if that actually helped keep the hat any more secure. The only issue I've had is that it can be a little difficult to snap on or unsnap the front flap. So if you wear it into a store, it can be a hassle to try to remove the flap in order to not look like you're covering your face for nefarious reasons.
