Plasti-kote 10601 400ml Metal Primer - Grey

I'm quite a fan of plasticote spray paints, and this one is no exception. It comes in a 400ml rattle can. The colour is a battleship grey. Like all paints and primers, preparation is everything. Make sure you have removed any loose flaking chips, then rub down with a coarse sanding paper. Then sand to the smoothness of finish you require. A good wash after that and leave to completely dry. When spraying, have the can about 30cm (a foot) from the surface and spray with a slow oscillating motion from left to right. Make sure you spray past the object on either side, as this will prevent a build up of excess paint on the edges. Ideally, once dry, rub this first coat down with a fine/medium grit paper, wash, then spray a second coat. The sanding isn't strictly necessary, but will help with the finish of your top coat. 400ml doesn't go very far, but, for doing those smaller jobs, this is a great metal primer, particularly if the object is suffering from mild corrosion. Good and thick but still easy to apply, gave a good coverage and perfect surface to paint over. The finger guard worked and I kept my hands clean. Will buy again.

Product itself is very good but it doesn't go very far - just managed a single coat on 2 (large) shoe racks. Coverage would probably be alot better if using on a solid item without loosing so much product through gaps. Much better, clean, crisp coverage than brush on version.

Applied this using the trigger attachment, onto some old metal garden furniture. I was really surprised how well it covered. I managed 2 chairs per can, and they are good quality chairs with alot of parts. I would not hesitate to buy this product again. Great stuff.

Very happy leaves a run free even coat and drying time is short.

Used as a base primer on some classic car steel set frames. Good coverage, easy to apply and dries very quickly.

Too early to say if it’s durable. Went quite a long way, I am spraying a gate, I used cardboard behind, for overspray. Good colour, I actually like it as a main colour. I think I’d need 2 more tins to finish gates, so I’ve decided to switch to painting it. This is easier, but I’m losing too much.
