The best by date stamped on the packaging is approximately one year from the date of manufacture, so you can add 6 months to the best by date and it will remain safe to eat provided that it hasn’t been exposed to extreme temperatures (below 32F/0C or above 90F/32C) for a long period of time.

how can I avoid my orders being filed by the Chinese?

Trying to find out where a product is made so you know it was made in a democracy is tough these days.
