Mid-Range Powerhouse
The VAGKRI 12,000 BTU unit is designed to bridge the gap between "cheap and loud" budget units and "overpriced" premium brands. It is a workhorse for rooms between 350 and 450 sq. ft., offering a high-velocity airflow that many competitors lack. The Highlights Rapid Chill: It punches above its weight class in terms of "time to cool." It features a high-efficiency compressor that can noticeably lower room temperature in under 15 minutes. The "3-in-1" Utility: It’s an excellent dehumidifier. In "Dry Mode," it’s capable of pulling significant moisture out of the air—a feature that often works better than the cooling mode in humid "swampy" climates. User Experience: The LED display is crisp, the remote is intuitive, and the Auto-Swing louvers help distribute air evenly rather than blasting one spot until it's freezing. The Reality Check: Lifespan & Durability You can expect a 5 to 10-year lifespan, but because VAGKRI is a value-focused brand, the unit's longevity is entirely dependent on your maintenance habits: Compressor Health: The motor is the heart of the unit. To keep it from burning out in year 3, ensure the exhaust hose is as short and straight as possible. Kinks in the hose cause heat to back up into the unit. The "Storage Trap": Many of these units "die" during the winter. If any water remains in the internal reservoir during storage, it can corrode sensors or grow mold. Always use the "Fan Only" mode for 2 hours before packing it away to bone-dry the internals. Parts Availability: As a newer brand, finding a specific replacement circuit board 5 years from now may be harder than finding one for a GE or Honeywell unit.

Really tickled with this.
I dreaded unboxing and installing this air conditioner, but we're supposed to hit 103 today, so I had to do it. I've used a portable air conditioner of another brand in my kitchen for about five years now, so I know how portable air conditioners work. This was no different -- but it does have drain holes and a siphon; my other one does not. I'm still not sure how to drain the one I already have. I installed this in the window in my bedroom where it will be a nice toasty about 95 degrees by 11 PM tonight, plugged it in, and wow. The room is COOL. Like COLD. Granted, it's 8:21 AM and we're benefiting from the overnight temps being around 63 this morning, but the room is amazingly cold. I'm looking forward to a comfortable cool night of sleeping in my bedroom tonight. A couple of interesting details: for one, my windows are big windows that slide side-to-side, and the sliders included in the package are not big enough by about six inches. There's a note on the instruction booklet that if the sliders aren't the right size, to contact them and provide your window size. I just did. We'll see how that turns out. Another interesting detail: this unit has a "sleep" mode, where the light will dim and maybe the fan speed or sound turns down a few notches -- I haven't tried that out yet. That's a nice feature. I'm just delighted with this product so far. As we speak I'm sitting in the kitchen, in front of my first portable air conditioner unit, which doesn't have near the "oomph" of the new unit. I'm seriously considering replacing it with a second Vakgri unit. Today will be a good test. I've got both A/C's going, the windows are closed in the house, the shades are drawn, it's a 1650-square-foot house, and I want to see how we make it through this 103-degree day. An update on 8/15/23: This has been just great. What a godsend to be able to sleep comfortably through the night when yesterday was our hottest day of the year so far with 113 degrees in places, and 109 degrees for the next few days. Two things about this that are awesome: the bedroom is actually COLD, even yesterday, and I have it set at 74. I could set it all the way down to 64, but that would be too cold. The other thing is that it has a "sleep" setting. The blue lights are very bright while it's on, and it's an easy thing to push the "sleep" button -- even in the dark -- and the light dims quite nicely so it doesn't bother me while sleeping. I still haven't bought the second one to replace the 5-year-old other-brand window A/C I have in the kitchen, and on days when it's 113 outside and the kitchen one seems to be struggling, I'm seriously thinking about it. I noticed that the price went up by $6 since I bought mine. :/ That wouldn't keep me from buying another one, though.

UPDATED: Pain to Install then stopped working
Update 5/28/24 with original review below: After 7 months of back and forth in email, I have finally received a resolution. I sent a video and they were able to identify it as a panel issue. They sent a replacement panel. They had me hire an electrician that I paid for out of pocket at $155. They agreed to refund the amount. I will update the notes here if I receive a successful refund. The panel did fix the problem right away and the electrician was able to put the unit back together no problem. They sent step by step instructions with pictures for the panel replacement that were very helpful. The unit blows cold again instantly and responds to the remote as well as the touch panel. My only complaint now is that I wish it hadn’t taken this long to get a resolution. Original review: WASTE OF MONEY. BUY SOMETHING ELSE. BROKE AFTER 2 MONTHS. VAGKRI WON'T HONOR 1 YEAR WARRANTY. Stopped work after 2 months. It took forever to install it properly in our window. We had to make our own board to close the window since what they provided didn't work. We have a normal sized window. It worked great and pumped cold air but DEFINITELY not 700 square feet. It was struggling to keep one bedroom cold enough. We live in San Diego. It doesn't get that hot outside. Then, it just stopped working. Once day we went to turn it on and it is completely unresponsive. The dust cover opens then closes again when unplugged and re-plugged in. It doesn't respond to the touch controls or the remote. We bought in July 2023. Email support in November 2023. No response. Submitted a help ticket via amazon in January then finally got a response. We sent a video to Vagkri and they said it was the panel. There are no appliance repair or air conditioned repair that will work on a portable unit so nobody could help. We told them they could arrange for someone to come and fix it instead of reimbursing us for it but they just stopped responding. We just submitted to Amazon for their warranty team to investigate and provide us a full refund. WASTE OF MONEY. BUY SOMETHING ELSE.
