Superb!
The "Pelikan Premium M800 fountain pen F Plume black/blue" is the bigger brother to the M600 recently purchased and in the same Stresemann Blue Stripe. Although some versions of Pelikan's M series fountain pens have a small ink level window behind the nib section, not all do; some have solid bodies but the Strresemann stripes are part-transluscent which can allow the ink level to be assessed. The M600 and M800 share a very similar design but with subtle differences, the most immediately obvious being that the M800 is 50% greater in weight, has a slightly broader barrel for increased ink capacity (estimated to be about 1.5ml) and 12mm extra in length. The extra weight is due to the replacement of the plastic piston assembly used in models up to and including the M600 with one that is brass as is that of the M1000. The additional weight also improves balance during use. The nib section and nib are slightly larger, and the nib which is now 18ct gold rather than 14ct is slightly softer in consequence.Despite its Fine nib which, with some pens can lead to degrees of scratchiness, this is truly buttery smooth gliding over the paper as if it were ice and a pleasure and delight to use. Although Medium is the preferred and most 'natural' grade, there are a few others within a personal collection. This is by far the best of those few with Fine nibs and it is surprisingly also smoother than the Broad nib on the Pelikan M600.Previously, two examples from the M200 series were tried a week or so apart but neither was 'great' and one a major disappointment; the better-performing one proved that its small size was a challenge and not personally suited. This is the consequence. It also demonstrates the widely-made claim that, when at their best, Pelikan's nibs will out-perform almost any other regardless of brand, reputation or price. They tend to be 'wet' writers and normally perform best with a drier ink although the F and EF nibs benefit from a neutral or 'wet' ink.Filled with the wet ink, the pen writes almost as others with a Medium nib. The greater fill capacity of this model with the Fine nib fitted should extend the period between fills making it ideal for written examinations as well as general day-to-day correspondence, note-taking, journalling etc. The piston system operates extremely smoothly and appears to take a full ink load every time (if only this were a 'demonstrator' with a transparent body!); similar systems used in filler-adapters rarely achieve 100% loads and 50-60% is quite common. As there is no way to use cartridges, the longer fill life is very desirable. Fifteen sides of A4 ruled paper used less than half its ink load.Superb and recommended, although it may be a considered purchase as pricing is highly variable even among UK sellers. This was purchased at the lower end of the price range but can be more than 50% higher.

The best writing experience from a fountain pen
I've been writing with fountain pens for some time and have always had an eye on this Pelikan M800. The price has been a concern for me but I finally decided to go for it and purchased it with a fine nib. The writing experience is really enjoyable. It feels just right. Refilling with its piston filler is a joy. A few people in the office have commented on the beautiful green stripes. Yes its expensive but it is the best fountain pen I've owned.

breathtaking craftsmanship
bought this pen as a gift to my father. it is absolutely a work of art. just one thing: maybe the 'presentation box not included' can be added to product description in the future, and an option to buy it with the box together can be listed with it.

Good quality, beautiful figure. However the packing is too simple.

Beautiful Pen!
The size and weight of this pen are just perfect. Feels solid, but comfortable for long writing sessions. Great price for this beauty. If you’re on the fence about adding it to your collection then add it to your cart!! :)

Impressed!
Due to my recent mishap with a fountain pen from a renowned French company and the replacement unit was even worser than the original. I decided to move forward to Pelikan. As Amazon had a good deal on a M800 with Fine nib I ordered one. The pen is on the larger side but very balanced uncapped. I read a lot of stuff regarding the nib and being a very wet writer. On decent paper and using - in my case- Waterman Serenity Blue I would say, it is less juicy compared to my old Parker 65, 45, 75, modern Duofold. Regarding the "thickness"of the Fine nib it leans more towards a Medium nib, but got rewarded with a very nice smooth writing experience. As I am approaching my 60ies I learned writing cursive and learned to apply very little pressure on the fountain pen. After initial filling and the first lines were indeed very wet once the pen "settled" it writes very nicely and kept this behaviour even when interrupting longer writing sessions. At this stage I am very happy with my purchase, and sincerely hope I found a companion for years to come.
