Whole mace
I did not expect them to be soft little leaf-like tendrils. I added them to tea and they are quite pleasantly aromatic.

Quick and fresh.
Got it a day earlier than promised and used it same day. Was very fragrant and quality seemed excellent!

Deep and pungent
Adds unique depth and spice. This is fresh, I’ve never seen it like this before. Back in the day, we used to use mace all the time in sweet baking, but the mace we had was nothing like this. It was the conventional powdered form of the spice, and while it added flavor, it was a pale copy of this product. Recommend this for up level your baking.

High quality - well packed - long expiration date
This is well packed and smells fresh- long expiration date 12 months plus - only gripe is that this quantity is too much for individual families- this spice is used sparingly and there is a lot in the bag - better if there is a smaller quantity package

Arrived crushed. Not whole as advertised.
Mostly small, dusty flakes. Only a few larger pieces. Not whole mace.See photo.

Fun and unusual spice to use in baking and savory dishes
I've run across recipes calling for mace and once upon a time had some in my spice rack, but most times when I see it, I either skip it or look up a substitution, which is typically nutmeg. I ordered it when I saw it on Amazon to not only have some around, but also see it in its more natural unground state. This summer, I have subscribed to a weekly CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box, which if you haven't heard of it, is a weekly box of whatever the farm has ready to pick. With a small household, it can sometimes feel like a crazy treadmill to use up all the veggies before the next pickup. I've had turnips in my last 3 or 4 pickups and they are building up in my fridge, so today I made riced turnips as a side dish. I peeled, chopped, and boiled them, then riced them with some butter and sour cream and added salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of this mace. I was lazy and used a spoon to try to scoop out some of the crushed mace out of the bag and then rubbed it between my palms over the side dish. I got a few big pieces when I was eating the turnips, but mostly it gave a nice zip to the turnips. I found a recipe for oatmeal cookies and also an old church supper recipe for mace cake, so those are both up to try next. A fun spice to have in my spice cabinet.
