Great safe control of your dog!
I’ve been using Canny Collars for the last 20+ years for the Rottweiler breed. It was first recommended to me by John at Zepthedep rescue centre where I met my first adult rescue sister Rotties B+L. It’s the only collar I go to and trust to keep my dogs under control, from years of experience with the majestic loving creatures Rottweilers are. From Rottie pups to full-size rescue adult delinquents these collars give you control and command over your dog. The difference with these is how the tensioner around the muzzle works by moving the dogs head downwards and not up if the dog pulls. This prevents sudden unnatural upward neck pulls and is safer for their wellbeing compared to other similar style products made by other manufactures sold in high street pet-supply shops. It’s easy to get onto the dog and is exceptionally secure, giving ‘reduced’ mouth movement if the dog is pulling, preventing potential bitting yet will provide enough slack for general mouth opening (panting, eating and drinking and general licking) if not under any tension. This is not a muzzle so don’t think to use it as one. This is a general walking and training collar that works better than the original choke chain collars of the old days. If you have a really snappy bitey dog then fit this first and then a muzzle cage over, it will still work. Size guides on the box is accurate for the Rottweiler, so I would assume a good guide for other dog breeds. Nice to see packaging has gone up market with recyclable card as opposed to the previous plastic blister pack from years ago. Good instruction for those who are not familiar with the product. Picture of my boy (rescued adult after being perviously mistreat and re-homed twice before getting his forever home with me) supplied wearing his Canny Collar no.6, which I trained him with this collar and now takes general walks with it :) It’s a good price for the collar considering these things are tough, well made and do last many many years, I’ve only bought new due to growth if the dog and them becoming grubby over the years, keeping an old one spare when buying a replacement.

Brilliant collar
This collar is actually amazingly well designed. For a start it could completely replace any standard collar as an everyday wear item, I think. Its nicely padded, adjustable and very well put together from a "pretty" point of view. The stiches are nice and tight and the metal parts seemingly well chromed. The control part of it can safely wrap out of the way using the supplied clips. Although I would suggest easier to use clips... You can get a selection of various things you could use in a pound shop. And if those wont fit... Add some of the rings you use to clip your keys together... This also works to lengthen it, if needs be. The control section of it is gloriously simple. Just a strap that either slips over the muzzle from under your dogs chin, or becomes part of the collar so that the choice is yours when it comes to the need for stopping your dog pulling without messing about moving components or taking the thing on, or off. What I mean is... If your training your dog on the lead... You can use the collar as a "stopper" or a normal collar. And changing from one to the other takes about 3 seconds. So if your dog wasnt socialised, for example... Or for some reason had a real issue with that one dog down the road... You can use the collar simply as a collar, but stop and apply the "muzzle" in a few seconds to get past and train your dog. But it has the added benefit of the nose strap... The controling bit, being threaded back through the neck section of the collar which means that when the dog pulls, the force of the strap pulls the dogs nose directly down and back towards itself. Wheres the Halti, the other controling collar that I brought, used a specific sized muzzle strap that would pull back up towards the user... Meaning the thing tightened and scraped up the dogs nose and twisted her neck... It did the same job, they both stopped my dog from pulling, but the canny collar did it in a much nicer way, and in a better package. The other good thing that i noticed was that because the canny collars controling strap just looped over the top of my dogs snout, that my dog could yawn and open her mouth fully, which didnt bother her anywhere near as much as the Halti, so she scratched less with it. Also, and heres the major thing... Its MUCH easier to get on and off compared to anything else like this as the nose strap is really loose when installing... So it slips over really easily. This could be seen as a bad thing as others have noted that the nose bit slips off. This could easily be true, but fixed by keeping a very slight pressure on the lead... Even having a heavier dog lead clip seemed to help with me. But after having the collar for loads of walks now, its only ever "came off" twice. But that just means the collar went back to a normal collar, and it took a few seconds to rectify. I honestly couldn't recomend this collar enough. (btw, my dog is a border collie. Not sure how it would work on a shorter snout dog. May be fine... May not. I havent seen it in action)

It does stop pulling!!!!
Whilst not perfect this collar does do what it says it will. If you have a dog that pulls it does stop pulling. We have a 7 stone Labrador who can pull me over and with this on he does not pull!! Obviously there’s a but, the collar works like reins when your dog pulls the reins tighten and he stops pulling. But if you have a smart dog they realise that if they stop pulling and actually slow down the reins loosen and he can bat it off his nose. Our dog does this several times during a walk. It is fairly easy to put back on. Another issue is the reins are quite flimsy, the first collar we bought the rein snapped putting it on so if your dog struggles with it once it’s on there is a risk of them damaging it. We did get a new collar when this happened (it was frayed so think this didn’t help) it was sent out before the return had even been received so very happy with customer service. Lastly there’s clips to fasten the reins up if you are letting the dog off lead but they do hang down again there’s risk of the collar snapping or the dog getting injured. Obviously you can remove the collar while off lead but if your dog is a nightmare like mine putting it back on during the walk will be a grief. In summary if your issue is your dog pulls forward while walking then this is the perfect solution. If like my dog they walk forwards, backwards, diagonally and upside down then it will create other issues but I will say it’s the best product I’ve found for stopping pulling todate.

Brilliant collar, clip to flimsy
Does what it's supposed to do. Stopped my 1 year old Labrador from pulling. Only problem is the carabena clip on the back broke, it was so flimsy.

I have tried 3 other style of collars with my dog that did not work well for me, my dog, or both of us. A regular neck collar was not secure enough, choked my dog, and did nothing to keep my dog from pulling during the entire walk. This was incredibly uncomfortable and fatiguing to my arms. I then tried a simple rope loop collar, but this was worse as it also choked my dog while digging into my hands (although it was more secure). I then purchased a gentle leader collar that goes around the neck and has a muzzle loop that the leash attaches too. This worked a lot better as my dog could not pull hard on the lead without jerking his head around. This provided the security, and the arm relief that I needed, but my dog HATED IT and would constantly stop during the walk and try to pull it off his muzzle. He would also step over the leash when he lowered his head to sniff as he walked. The leash attaches to the lead under his muzzle, which would interrupt the walk as I re-routed the leash to avoid chaffing. I used this collar for about 2 years until I discovered this collar. This collar suffers from none of the problem of the prior collar/leashes. My dog does not step over the leash as it is attached behind his head. He cannot pull hard as the collar applies a corrective force that stops him, without choking or jerking of the head. Is is neither uncomfortable to him or I. My dog still does not like the feeling of the muzzle portion, but it's a huge improvement as he only picks at it at few times during the walk instead of constantly. The collar seems to be of exceptional quality. The material (nylon?) appears to be durable, with double rows of stitching, and eyelets are metal. The collar is a little difficult to setup at first, but then becomes easy to use. Note that you cannot use this with a long leash or retractable lead. If you relax too much pressure the muzzle loop will droop and slip off. That said, within a few minutes we both adjusted our walk style and I found it to be highly effective at controlling my dog without causing discomfort for either of us. My 14 year old child was able to get the hang of it after about 10 minutes. I would recommend this collar to anyone looking for a solution to walking a "spirited" dog. My dogs neck was right between 2 sizes, so I went with the recommended smaller size, and it fits perfectly.
