HOW DO THESE RUBBER FITTINGS WORK. Toilet seats become loose because the holes in the toilet bowl are far bigger than the metal rods that fit through them, which means that the rods, and hence the hinges and seat, have room to move about. These rubber fittings are squeezed into the gaps between the rods and toilet bowl by tightening the METAL nuts underneath the toilet pan. This eliminates any possible movement of the hinge, AND HENCE THE SEAT. I then put a large M8 'penny' washer on, and then an M8 hexagonal nut. Tightened the nut using a spanner which meant I could get a good 'grip' on it, since the toilet is in the corner, and I wouldn't have been able to get my hand down there to tighten anything much (which was probably why the toilet seat was wobbly in the first place).These appear to be working fine - no movement of the toilet seat.
