Q: size chart is stating that a medium is 44in ? and large 46 can you please confirm this because it doesn't sound correct

Not correct. I am 40in chest and ordered a large but it was rather tight. Sent it back and got an XL which fits petfectly. I would say whatever your normal size is, go one size up. For your info very easy to return and very quick delivery.
