I purchased the Western Digital 6TB WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive (WD64PURZ) for a security camera recording system, and it has performed exactly the way a surveillance drive should. WD Purple drives are designed specifically for DVR and NVR systems that run 24/7, and that’s the main reason I chose this model. Installation was simple and the drive was immediately recognized by the system with no issues. The 6TB capacity provides plenty of room for continuous recording and the drive runs quietly while handling multiple camera streams without any noticeable lag or dropped footage. One thing I appreciate about the WD Purple line is that it’s built for reliability under constant operation. Surveillance systems are always writing data, so having a drive designed for that workload makes a difference compared to standard desktop drives. The 256 MB cache helps keep performance smooth when multiple cameras are recording at the same time. It also feels like good value for the money considering the capacity and the fact that these drives are specifically engineered for security systems. When I bought my Lorex system from Lorex, i got their 8TB HD (Seagate). It was a bad drive and failed to be recognized by my system. Lorex customer service made me remove, reinstall, remove, reinstall even though I had already told them I am tech-savvy and the HDD was dead. I returned it for a refund. I bought this one and it was $100 cheaper and worked flawlessly and instantly. If you have a Lorex and want the max size HDD (8TB), I'd recommend this purple.

Had an issue with shipping but seller was prompt in correcting it. Drive showed up and is 0hrs. Plugged it into my Unifi system for cameras and it works perfectly! I now have almost 2 months of backups.

WD has been in the drive business for ages. Drive is quiet, installs easily and works well in my NVR Edit: so after being installed for less than a month, drive starting to make some noise. An intermittent squeaking almost like a faint beep. To me sounds like something’s going on in the head as though it hit bad sectors on the drive platters. I turned off the recording feature on the NVR and the noise went away so now I know it’s not the machine itself….. bad sectors in less than a month and the drive was barely half written on…. I reformatted the drive and now it’s quiet again at the cost of losing all my data. Am I going to have to do this every month? ….. I chose this drive because of WD reputation in the HDD business, now that thought went down the drain….. Edit: after formatting the drive, noise went away for a few days, started to do the same thing again…. Returning this and ordering from different major manufacturer

Great drive for security system

Two connectors, 4 bolts and drops right into your DVR - quick format and you're up. Make sure your DVR is compatible. Took longer to open and bolt the DVR case back up than the installation.
