Half Yard Heaven: Easy Sewing Projects Using Left-over Pieces of Fabric

A good book with some nice ideas and designs.
I really like those owls. Haven't made them yet (went off on a 2 week trip,) but I have made the paper patterns, which are easy to do and a rather novel way the author has of making simple patterns. (Ex: Using a small plate to draw around the edge or part of the edge, then connecting up with a line drawn from one point to another, etc.) then it's all about the fabrics you choose. I have a LOT of pieces of fabric left over from my clothing and costume sewing days, but now I am creating fun things, such as what is in this type of book (and I do art quilts.) Also, it says in the front that you can create the things from the book for personal use, or for SELLING FOR CHARITY. (So many books say only personal or gift use.) As I belong to a group attached to a church, that sells things to fund their youth group, I find this useful. Yes, you can change up things from a pattern, but my thinking is that you get more use out of a book where you can sell the items, rather than paying for a book where (theoretically) you might make only one or two of an item. I understand why authors are particular about their copy righted patterns and ideas, but it is nice when an author is generous enough to allow selling of what you make from their patterns. I have books of both kinds, and yes, I use books to generate my own ideas, but sometimes I just need a pattern, from someone else, to work with to get the job done.

Quick, Attractive project with good explainations of techniques
I bought this book so I could make a cover for my sewing machine. It also provided me with a good tutorial on how to make and use bias tape. (I must have missed that lesson in my old home ec. class.....) It has a number of patterns and sewing hints that I am finding useful as I get back to sewing after too many years. Beyond the actual project ideas, this book is a good way to jump start your imagination and use the lessons to branch out into new, original projects with materials from your remnant stash.

Great book for easy projects
The book arrived a few days earlier than guaranteed and in excellent condition (new). Great step-by-step pictures and easy to follow directions. There are also some instructions in the front on how to do some of the steps like using bias tape and how to hand sew a ladder stitch.

Half Yard Heaven: Easy Sewing Projects - Debbie Shore
This took longer than I expected to arrive but it did arrive the 14th earlier than I was told on information request. This is a delightful book. I have been watching Debbie Shore on You tube for some time and this is a great book for beginner or experienced sewer. I find that it Is one of those Happy Happy kind of experiences just looking at the book. I can''t wait to do some of the fun items in here. Will make great gifts for Christmas especially if your forgot someone or have and unexpected guest. It was worth the wait.

The book is great but the ideas are a little dated - was hoping for more current ideas rather than aprons, doorstops, tea cosy, coat hanger covers, etc.. But the book does an excellent job of explaining with great photos and instructions.

Simple to follow
I was looking for small makes as I have not sewn much before. This book is easy to follow with clear instructions and pictures. I have made 3 aprons & adapted the table mat project to make a dog bed liner. Highly recommend.

Good range of projects
When I first opened the book I found it to have colorful illustrations and good range of projects on the contents page. There are simple steps by step directions which are easy to follow. It has some great examples on how to use everyday items from your home to create templates for the projects. Some projects may appear a little older fashioned for some people but I think everything has the option to be "jazzed" up and made more interesting. So far I've only made the basic hearts project but I am looking forward to having a go at them all.P.s. I am a beginner with my sewing.

not enough templates-basic advice so not good
sorry didn't like this book it needs better and more templates could have written it better myself. thought i was getting something useful. i have left over fabrics but found that the book is sparse and uninteresting in designs one design with fuller instructions would be preferable i have binned it.

One of the best basics books on sewing
A must have for beginners to make projects - there are some sewing tips in here, however, if you want to use a sewing machine you may be better getting a course or another book for that - there are good guides for hand sewing, but this book is basic as basic comes - great for rainy evenings with the children as these projects are so easy to make... I am going to be able to make everything in there and I have not sewn for some time - a good looking book too, ideal for a sewing circle for friends to share too.. There are not template and patterns to follow so you must be ok with measuring out.. would be better with some patterns included but overall, really useful for any household keen to upcycle fabric - I love it
