Top Rated Dash Cam
After extensive research, I chose this dash cam because it ranks at number one in most categories for recorded image and video quality. What I like about this dash cam:1. Ability to transfer data from the dash cam to my phone using WiFi 5G for quick viewing.2. The dash cam can be easily removed from the windshield attachment because it's magnetic.3. 4K resolution recording for the front of the camera. Only 1080p for cabin and rear.4. Ability to sync with my phone.Minor setbacks about this cam:1. Can only record at 30 FPS.2. The phone app is a bit slow, but overall I am happy with it.Setting up the dash cam was easy, but updating it required using the Vantrue phone app. You have to sync your phone to the dash cam's WiFi network and push the update to the dash cam via your phone. Also, make sure you have a micro SD card in your dash cam or else you cannot update it. Once updated, you are good to go.The default settings in the app is looped to 1 minutes recordings and you are done at this point. There are other settings that you can tinker around with such as exposure and G-Sensor and parking mode, etc. I left most of the settings as default and the recordings were fine for both daytime and nighttime. I have a 256GB micro SD card installed in my dash cam but it can handle up to 512GB.The box includes two long USB-C cables--one to connect to power the dash cam and another one is to connect to the rear cam. I have mine installed in a 2018 Toyota Prius and have no issues with cable length. The kit comes with two electrostatic plastics to assist with mounting the front and rear cameras. It also comes with two adhesive wipes to help increase the adhesion of the electrostatic plastics. The electrostatic plastic is a layer of plastic that you place onto your glass windshield to prevent the sticky residue from the actual mount itself if you decide to remove the dash cam. Once you install it, you can then mount your dash cam onto the electrostatic plastic.I love that you can view the dash cam using your phone via the app because it made setting up the dash cam so much easier. This was especially helpful when setting up the rear cam because I was able to adjust the viewing angle by checking my phone rather than running back and forth to view it on the dash cam. In short, without this feature I recommend setting up the rear cam first before installing the dash cam in the front. Another thing is that you can use the phone app to change all the settings on the dash cam itself from your phone so you don't have to adjust the settings on the dash cam itself using the 4 tiny buttons. The 4K image quality is great, but you won't be able to read license plates most of the time. This is true for all 4K dash cam on the market. In some rare cases you can make out the license plate but it is best to snap a photo of the license plate using your phone if you do get into an accident. There is a feature called PlatePix which is software to help increase license plate visibility but I have not experimented with it.The dash cam can record only at 30 FPS in various combinations and resolutions: Front+Cabin+Rear, Front+Rear, Front+Cabin, or Front. Note that only the front camera is 4K while the rear and cabin will always be 1080p. It is unfortunate that it cannot go up to 60 FPS because this may help with increase visibility for capturing better license plate images. The phone app works but does need some optimization. Overall it works and that's all that matters. Thankfully the app does not ask you to create an account. Just install and sync with the dash cam's WiFi network to connect.Overall, I rate this dash cam as 4.5/5 stars.Everyone should have a dash cam in their car to save themselves the hassle in the rare case when they will need it as proof to insurance companies. Not everyone on the road is honest and a video recording will clear up most situations. I consider it as insurance and it will most likely pay for itself in the long run.

Every New Driver Should Have One
Let me start this by saying that my daughter turned 16 back in October. For her birthday, we got her a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. A week ago, she was driving home from basketball practice with a friend and they were following a pickup truck with debris in the bed. All of a sudden, something flew out of the bed. She managed to swerve avoiding the brunt of the impact and her bumper received the impact. Being a new driver, she was focused on avoiding the incident and nothing else, so she didn't get a license plate. The truck kept driving. It's situations like these where I wish I had installed this camera sooner. I have researched for months and I've watched more videos on the subject than I care to remember, but one thing always stood out: the quality of the images that you get from the Sony Starvis 2 lens along with HDR makes a HUGE impact on the recording. It would have captured the license plate of the truck and we could have reported it to the police. Most everything you need is included in the box except for a memory card. You will need to pick that up separately and you can use up to a 512GB card. Vantrue recommends using their brand, which I picked up the 256GB since my daughter doesn't drive nearly as much as I do. You have a USB A to USB C cable, a cable to provide power using a power outlet (lighter port), and cabling to run to the rear of the vehicle for the rear camera. You have the front camera that records in front of the vehicle, a camera for the interior of the vehicle, and a module for outside the rear of the vehicle. This is pretty great coverage and I feel better knowing that almost all events will be captured from almost every angle. Lastly, if you use your power port for a car charger, the plug has a USB A port on the back so that you can connect to it and still maintain a power source, which is fantastic and much appreciated. One additional item I did add was the Vantrue Dash Cam hard wire kit. I didn't want to use the aux port and wanted a cleaner look. Also, I prefer the camera to have the option of recording even when she's parked at school or anywhere she may be. It connects to the fuse panel and should the battery voltage drop below a certain level, it shuts the camera off to prevent drain. No more coming back to the car after a random hit-and-run or a dent from someone's door in the mall parking lot. I highly recommend adding this to the installation.Installation was straightforward. The front mount adheres to the windshield with very strong 3M tape and the mount holds the camera magnetically with a fairly strong connection. For the rear, my situation may differ from most as there is no headliner on her Wrangler because the top is removable, so I had to get creative and it took me a little longer as I had to secure the cable leading to the rear module, but it came out perfectly. Most installations are standard and you can hide the cable to the rear along the headliner using a standard pry tool. If you're not comfortable doing that, any show that does car audio will do it for you and it's fairly inexpensive in my research. In usage, this is where it shines. When you first insert the memory card. It will prompt you to format it. That's pretty quick and painless. Then you can go through the options to tailor to your likes. There are a lot of options from how many screens you can display on the camera (you can actually have the front, interior, and rear all displayed at once, or you can just have the front. When you look at the recordings, it creates separate folders for the different views. You can even change the default naming scheme prior to usage, but I just left it at default. The other thing to remember is that if you use the highest quality, it'll take up the most space, but you can determine the length of the recordings and it will loop. This means that once it fills up the micro SD card, it will start by deleting the oldest videos. Don't worry though. You have options to prevent losing footage. You can click a button up top to save a recording or even better, with the 5gHz wifi, you can utilize the app to download videos to save on your phone or share the video to social media. It's extremely versatile. The app is really straightforward and easy to connect to the camera. My 16-year-old did it all on her own without needing the manual, but the manual is very detailed and takes you through all of the options. It's available for both iOS and Android so it will cover just about any smartphone that you use. When you download the video, it will have all of your details captured for you to share such as your GPS location of an incident and even the speed you're traveling (if in motion). You can share details with your insurance company right there on the spot versus having to wait until you get to a computer to connect the camera or the micro SD card and then download the footage.I can go on and on about the features of the camera and the app itself, but I think I have highlighted the majority of the standout items with this camera. I still make comparisons to other dash cams out there, and I can rest easy knowing that Vantrue is the one I choose all the time. You pay a bit more, but you get so much more from it and it's worth every penny. I'm so glad my daughter is okay, but I can rest easier now knowing that she has the Vantrue N4 Pro on board protecting her as well.
