ZTE MF986D 4G+ MiFi Portable Travel Wi-Fi Hotspot, Unlocked LTE-Advanced, Up to 32 Devices, Long Lasting Battery - White

Hi upon the launch the device could literally had max 8 users connection by default, but this has been modified to max 32 users by default by software FOTA after activating the device in August 2023.

Package arrived on time. Followed instructions and installed sim card. Unit recognised sim cards from Now, EE and Lebara (Vodafone) without the need to input APN settings. Speed test on EE resulted in speeds around 50 Mb which is what I would expect for a 4G LTE+ advanced spec in my area. Router wifi coverage acceptable.Unit is dual 2.4 and 5 GHz but can only operate as 2.4 or 5 GHz and no smart connect facility. Used 2.4 GHz as all my devices uses this band. 8 devices connected. Nine device stated that router was full. Disconnected a device and another device connected. Specifications in advert states 32 devices. WebUI does allow adjustment of number of devices. It is set and I have reset to 32 but only 8 devices are allowed to connect. I am returning the unit as I need to be able to connect more that 8 devices. Otherwise would have kept and given higher rating.Purchased a second device from Amazon. Same problem could only connect a maximum of 8 devices. Contacted ZTE support who were very quick in their responses. They could not help and suggested returning the device to Amazon.

I liked this device. Firstly, it has a good coverage area; in an 80m apartment I could watch YouTube through two walls. Although wifi 5 has long been outdated (I have had wifi6 for 3 years now and routers and gadgets), it turned out that when connected to a windows computer I had the same ping of 15 both via usb and via wifi5 and the same speed of 130mb/s. But when connecting to a Samsung galaxy s23, I had 20 ping, but the speed was 130mb/s, the same ping on a smartphone I have in my large 4g router with wifi6. Another plus is the antenna connectors; I connected them to the netgear antenna with suction cups outside to the window. The speed and ping were the same but the reception strength increased and the sinr increased, it should be more stable. ⛔️I went abroad, he connected because you can turn on roaming on the screen, but when he returned, he didn’t want to come back (I was 500 meters from the border), he even turned off roaming and changed the bands, he tried to connect but wrote that there was no zone, for me it’s there was a sign to return it back, this is not the correct work, but in the application I noted that it only works in 4g and then it successfully switched to Luxembourg. I hope this will be fixed in updates. In Luxembourg there is no 3g, but only 2,4,5g. By the way, in order for it to work better in one place (without moving around), you need to select the 3 best bends, this can be done through the browser in developer mode, it won’t work in the application, but there is a link to the browser in the application. It also works with fritz.box (but it connected the second time. On fritz.box I chose to connect the mobile Internet if there was a cable failure.
