Could not put it down...why did I wait so long to read it
This is my first book by this author but by no means my last. I didn't realize it was part of a duet when I started reading it and lately I've been trying to stay with standalones so if I don't have time with advance reader books, I won't feel cheated. Alas, it IS part of a duet and I HAVE purchased the next book because I absolutely HAVE to find out what happens next to Cadence and Fitz. Yes it IS young adult but it is also something that many young girls have had to deal with when it comes to first loves. I look forward to seeing how Dakota can possibly bring these two into the light.

Cute young couple
Young Adult books are not generally what I read, but I came across this and found it piqued my curiosity. The two main characters, Fitz and Cadence had an immediate attraction to one another that I felt the need to take the journey with them to see where it would take them. Fitz had a major secret that he couldn’t bring himself to share with Cadence and chose to make the most of their time together while it lasted. Now, secrets have been told, the future is bleak and life threw them an even bigger curve ball. The book ends with the future uncertain and I am anxious to move to the next book to see how it plays out.

Good set up book- needs to be read with book 2.
This was a sweet young adult story. Cadence and Fitz met when Fitz had to go to her family's camp as part of his penance for a really bad situation. Though initially Cadence isn't a fan of him, he gets through to her and he seems like a great guy who is in a bad spot. This is the first book in the duet and the second book is much longer so I think this is really meant to be a set up. And it was an emotional set up that really showcased how sweet Cadence is and what a great couple they COULD be, if they weren't facing these obstacles.I listened to the audiobook. The narration was great. I really loved Zachary Webber's voices and his emotion. Lacy Laurel also did a wonderful job playing all the characters well with emotion. I think they were a great pick to really reflect the major characters and the supportive characters.🎧AudiobookObsession, AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Not the best book of the set
First, I want to say that this book was well written. It had a plot that was well drafted, there were only a couple of misuses of words, and those were easy to ignore. I enjoyed the character development, although I thought more could have been told earlier on about Devon and Fitz.Second, and why I deducted two stars. Using a prologue to write the end of the book was just shocking to me. Here I was reading the prologue and I realized that I knew what the ending was. I get that the second book was written first and the author wanted to back-fill the story. And I understand it. What I don't understand is why you would write the ending of the story of Cadence in the prologue. I have no idea how many readers were disappointed in this, and it doesn't matter to me. What matters was that, with that few pages of prologue, the author took every bit of wind out of the sails of this story. I continued to read, and read it all the way through, but I could not help remembering, with every word, and every page, that I already knew the ending. If there had been some surprise in getting there, then it might have lessened the impact of that prologue. But there were really no surprises. This is a story of first loves, teenage love for Cadence, young adult love for Fitz. But there was no suspense and no build-up to it. Overall this first book of this series disappointed me.

Unexpected surprise
I loved it when I discover a book that makes me a little melancholy for the past and my younger years filled with summer love, origami puzzles, and mix tapes. This book captured the essence of teenage love so well and paved the way for the next book set in current times perfectly. I look forward to that.

Feeling in the Middle
So initially I thought it will be different story with the different type of the title, but much to my disappointment it sort of is a similar story that I have seen so many times in the movies. At times the story to me was super slow and to much detailed orientated. Overall I enjoyed it and looking forward to read part 2 of the story.
