Minuteman International Cast Iron Clean-Out Door, 8 by 8-Inch,Black

Replaced a 1946 Portland Stove Castings #79 clean out door that rotted out finally. At 70 years it didn't owe me anything. The issue was that the old door was 7x9 and this is 8x8 but it did fit with a minor trim of some mortar in one corner. Had to reverse the screws so they push toward the outside but other than that 100% as expected. Nice finish and like I said really heavyweight.

Note: One frame screw was bent on arrival, and metal corners protruding through cardboard package on delivery. Replaced old cleanout door with this unit. New unit is heavier metal, well built and its fit and finish virtually stopped cold air flow / draft through entire fireplace. Wish I had it last few winters. 30 day update. Rust showing on painted surfaces. Applied high temp fireplace paint to exterior surfaces and screws. Also high temp anti seize grease to screws and nuts.

Installation was fine. I'm concerned about the approach of using a screw to latch the door as I expect that will rust and become a problem down the road, but after 6-8 months so far it is still able to be removed. I am disappointed however that the paint/coating isn't better, it is rusting significantly after 6-8 months. Overall a decent product, but wish the design/quality were a little better.

You will need a level, Phillips screw driver , sds hammer drill with a 6 +inch masonry drill bit and a 3/4 inch sds chisel. And a sealer . There are screws on the inside that you tighten to secure it. They wedge against the brick . My only complaint is give us a full size template.

This product is sturdy, well made and easy to install. Our clean out door had rusted away and fallen apart on our chimney so I started searching for a replacement. I read the reviews on Amazon.com for the minuteman, measured our opening size and placed our order. The shipment arrived quickly, installation took a few minutes and the finished product looks great. Hopefully I won't have to replace this item for many years but if the need arises I will purchase this product again.

Door is cast has some small imperfections. But man are the screws garbage they are super soft metal and strip super easily. I have to replace all the fasteners with better quality.

Great clean-out door for the price. I repainted the basement and this replaced the rusted out cheap contractor steel door. Looks great on the newly painted basement wall. The fit per the specs was perfect. Installation was a breeze. It secured firmly with just tightening four screws. Job done!!

Door closure screw must be shortened. I placed a 1/4" nut on the screw to shorten the distance the screw could travel. Lubricate hinge bolts and closure screw annually.

Well built and worked perfectly.
