I have to say that it was not new ..it even had a post-it note on one page and some stains/marks but as it was for me it was not an issue. If it had been a gift it would have ad to go back. So far the recipes have generally cooked well however I have found a couple of errors in quantity - 4 cups of water id one should have been 1-2 as it turned a Dahl into a watery soup!!
