I have been using another product that is quite frequently found in litter supplies at the store. They were rubber, roundish, with raised nubs to capture litter. They offered an improvement over not using anything, however they still left a lot to be desired and each pad was small, just a few inches across, so I was using two. For what I paid for those two mats, I was able to purchase the Koonie premium cat litter mat. What a difference! For one thing it is far more attractive than many others. Secondly, these are truly a mat, so the cat will walk farther on it shedding more litter. This product is easy to clean with a vacume cleaner, and the bottom is solid and looks as though it would stop any accidents from seeping through to the floor. BOth my adult cat and kitten have plenty of room to "wipe their feet" after taking care of business. I would need my entire floor to be covered in this mat in order to keep litter contained! I am even using one of the best covered litter boxes with a flap door and high reviews. I swear my cats do it on purpose. Spite. That's what it is. Spite.UPDATE: I have been using this mat for a couple of months now. My cats are still tracking beyond the mat - despite me having it laid perpendicular (long end) in front of the litter box. So they are tracking a good 3 ft. away...I attempted to vacuum the mat, but vacuuming doesn't work. What works is you have to shake and beat the mat like you would your grandma's porch rug. Then, all of the grains of litter comes out. I was amazed at how clean the mat looked after shaking it out (and then vacuuming the pile on the floor after shaking out). I would recommend doing this outside. My tired brain didn't think of that... The only downside to this mat that I have found, is that you never, ever, EVER get water on the mat while there is trapped litter.
