All set against a backdrop consisting almost entirely of dreary sunsets and brooding skies.The story equivalent of an unrelenting series of punches to the balls where even the ‘Happy ending’ leaves a bittersweet taste in the mouth. I feel like the makers of this thing should legally have to provide a safe word to everyone who watches it.In short, If you ever feel really content and happy with your life but suddenly fancy an instant dose of depression for a change then I highly recommend watching this anime. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars with some amazing animation along the way *by J***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 July 2016* I won't go into huge story details about 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica', as it probably has more impact if you know as little of the twists and turns as possible - all I'll say is it starts out being a super-cute schoolgirl fantasy adventure, and gradually builds into a grand tragedy, with some amazing animation along the way. Highly recommended - even if you think that on first impressions it might not be quite your cup of tea - give it a go, and you may well be surprised.However, specifically regarding this product, I would recommend that the best way to experience it is via the original anime series, available elsewhere on Amazon. This 'movie version' is basically a compilation of the first half of the anime series - yes, they have improved some of the animation in places, but unfortunately they have also cut some of the original material - and the story losses outweigh the gains. Even in it's slightly butchered form this is still a 4/5, but the anime series is a 5/5, so having seen both I'd recommend you choose that option to experience this great series.
