Oxford Assess and Progress: Emergency Medicine (Flexicover)

A very useful book.
As a student paramedic I find this book very useful as a quick revision tool. It is probably aimed mainly at medical students but it is all very basic knowledge that any 2nd/3rd yr student paramedic should know. I would also suggest looking at the Oxford Handbook collection for pre-hospital, clinical examination and emergency care.

Perfect exam prep!
Anyone who's used the Oxford Handbook Series will know they're fantastic texts to have as a medical student and are unrivalled for the conciseness and value of information they provide. On the back of this I thought it would be prudent to try the Assess and Progress sister series and I did not come away disappointed! This text is well thought out in terms of patient scenarios you are likely to encounter but more importantly it's pitched at just the right level to stretch you here and there (though on occasion not enough). It's biggest asset lies in the answers which talks through logically and succinctly why an answer is correct and justify / prioritise appropriately as you need to for single-best answer questions (SBA). As is typical of the Oxford Handbook series their brevity never restricts the quality of the explanations! Importantly it mirrors the style of our exam questions and grades them according to difficulty. It's restricted occasionally by the lack of colour in its print such as with the ophthalmology questions but the images are clear enough that you can usually make out the pathology - it's a small but notable point.I'm sufficiently emboldened to extend my purchases to the other titles in this series!
